I'm pretty sure a 6,000-count jar of Perler beads was my babysitter for a while. This has nothing to do with my parents. I was a compulsive child who truly loved color coordinating the beads before making any sort of design on the pegboard. Once they were all organized, though, I was ready to begin.
More than two decades later, after buying myself a 22,000-count jar of assorted Perler beads, I found myself under the same spell. Color coordinating for hours while watching '90s rom-coms. (Dream night!)
As the I Heart HGTV team and I began brainstorming nostalgic camp crafts from summers past, we knew these tiny fuse beads had to be on the list in some way. The question was: "How do we make them functional and grownup yet still fun and playful?"
Drink Covers That Double as Coasters
You need all the same supplies that you would for any other fuse-bead project: fuse beads, a circular pegboard, parchment paper and an iron. Once you have all your materials in place, you may need at least three (or four) more things:

Netflix: Now's the time to binge-watch your favorite show.
Snacks: Pop some popcorn. If you get up a lot, there's going to be some bead bumpin'.
Sweatpants: Get comfy.
Wine: Bring the box over. #becausewhynot
Drink covers...

to coasters!

Seriously, you can't make just one, which means you'll be crafting for a while. It becomes super meditative, so enjoy it!

I made four and gave them all a fruit/citrus theme with lemon, kiwi, grapefruit and watermelon designs. They're perfect for backyard get-togethers, camping trips, picnics, lake days and lazy weekends on the beach.
And even though this is an adult twist on a kids' craft, kids can totally make and use these, too! (Just make sure you're there when it's time to do the ironing.)
Make This: Perler Bead Drink Covers + Coasters
Cheers to the best summer ever (and making Perler bead crafts for everyone you know)!
