Gloria Ballard

Gloria Ballard is a native of Nashville, where she enjoyed a career in journalism as a feature writer and editor at The Tennessean before leaving the newspaper business to become a freelance writer. During her career, she covered fashion, home design, gardening, travel and other features, and was travel editor at The Tennessean from 1998 until 2006. Currently, Gloria writes garden features for HGTV.com, travel stories and essays, and maintains two garden blogs. In addition to teaching creative writing classes at Watkins Community Education, she is a mentor in nonfiction and fiction at MTSU Write, a writing certificate program at Middle Tennessee State University, works as a freelance editor, and leads creative writing and travel writing workshops. Gloria is the winner in the Travel Writer category of the Mississippi Tourism Association’s 2015 Travel Media awards. She also writes fiction and was a 2004 participant at Sewanee Writers Conference. Her work has been published in Drafthorse literary journal (fiction), Number: Inc. (nonfiction) and other publications. She holds a B.A. from The University of Tennessee.
