Materials + Tools

  • heavy-duty scissors
  • straight pins
  • paintbrush
  • outdoor acrylic paints

1: Trace Pattern

Start with a plain doormat. Print out our free rainbow pattern, tape it together and cut out the rainbow shape. Pin it in place using straight pins and trace the pattern with a permanent marker.

2: Cut out Rainbow

Use heavy-duty scissors to cut the doormat into the rainbow shape.

3: Pin Pattern

Cut the rainbow pattern into separate pieces. Pin every other arc onto the doormat.

4: Paint First Colors

Paint your first three colors, working the paint down into the fibers of the doormat. Paint two coats of each color, letting it dry between coats. Remove the pattern and let dry completely.

5: Pin Second Half of Pattern

Pin the other three arcs into place on top of the painted colors on the rainbow.
