The Best Pajamas and Loungewear, According to HGTV Editors
From patterned pajamas to luxurious silk loungewear to versatile sweatpants, the homebodies at HGTV share their favorite products for sleeping and lounging.
During the last couple of years, I learned the true joy of pajama sets. I used to sleep in oversized T-shirts and shorts, but when you spend most of your time living and working at home without as many opportunities to dress up, wearing the same few old T-shirts and leggings can make a girl feel a little blah. Instead of office attire or going-out clothes I might typically spend money on, I found myself buying a lot more staying-in clothes, from matching workout sets to pajamas to robes.
While I still love wearing a well-worn oversized T-shirt from time to time, there's nothing quite as joy-sparking as reaching for a cute matching pajama set post-shower and then doing a multi-step nighttime skincare routine (check out our top skincare recommendations) before climbing into a comfortable bed. And many of my HGTV colleagues and fellow homebodies feel just as passionately about pajamas and loungewear. Between us, we have recommendations for everything from luxurious silk loungewear (including some surprisingly affordable silk pajamas!) to super-plush robes. When there is a lot to worry about in the world, the little things become the big things that help us find joy in simple routines — like getting ready for bed — and feel gratitude for our safe, cozy homes.
If you're looking to elevate your sleepwear or need a thoughtful gift idea for a loved one who likes feeling cozy, check out our recommendations for the best pajamas and loungewear, from budget-friendly Target finds to luxurious, splurge-worthy silk pajamas.
Our Favorite Pajamas
"I love this classic, affordable pajama set from Target. It's made from modal fabric that's soft and breathable. There's also a long version of this set, and both the long and short sets come in several solid colors and a couple of patterns. These pajamas would make great bridesmaid gifts if you're a bride who wants your bridal party to have matching getting-ready outfits without breaking the bank." — Laura James, Editor
"I am obsessed with this heavenly soft pajama set. I was skeptical of the flannel material, but it's very lightweight, not heavy and thick — perfect for Southern winters. I won't wear these year-round, but for colder months I love snuggling up in this delicious, comfy set. It's bump- and nursing-friendly, too! " — Molly Miller, Assistant Editor
"I wish I could express how comfortable these shorts are. They’re smooth as silk and made from natural eucalyptus fibers with NATTCOOL fabric (cooler than linen and better than cotton at moisture management) to keep you cool through the night and while lounging around. They’re so comfortable that I even wear them in the winter!" — Kayla Kitts, Managing Editor
"I received this luxurious 100% silk pajama set as a surprise gift and instantly became obsessed with it — when it's not in the wash, I almost always reach for this set. It comes in several colors and features layered slits on the sides of the shorts and back of the tank that allow you to move without restraint. Silk is popular for its temperature-regulating abilities and beauty benefits, and here at HGTV, we love silk pillowcases and eyemasks as well as pajamas. Silk is a luxury fabric, but it can also be delicate and require extra care. That's why Lunya's washable silk products are so convenient because you can toss them in the wash (or hand wash) and let them air dry. Now that I've tasted true luxury, I have several more of Lunya's products on my wish list, from robes to long pajamas and more. If you need a splurge-worthy gift idea for your partner, I can almost guarantee they would love this silk pajama set." — Laura James, Editor
"While I love my Lunya pajamas, the brand's products are pricey and something I'd have a hard time buying for myself, so I was excited to try a more budget-friendly silk pajama alternative from Quince. Direct-to-consumer brand Quince is known for its affordable luxury products and transparency, from cashmere sweaters starting at $45 to 100% silk pajamas. I recently got this button-up and pants pajama set and love it so much. The pants feature slits up the sides and are high-waisted, and the shirt is cropped and loose. It's so comfortable and soft! The washable silk has a 19 momme count and, compared to Lunya's, the pajamas have more of a matte finish, which I like. Quince also has a short set that's almost an identical dupe for the Lunya short set, but the Quince one comes with a 365-day return policy and is less than half the cost at $79.90 — you can't beat that price for real 100% mulberry silk!" — Laura James, Editor
"I am a pajama set person, and I have one set that I miss every time it's in the laundry: this set from Nightire. This female-owned small business makes the cutest PJs I've ever owned, and the prints cannot be topped. I have a long set, but I'm already eyeing a short set for this summer. The Protea Flower Power Set fills my flower-loving heart, and the Drive Me Dotty Set I'd be tempted to wear 24/7. Bonus points for sustainable bamboo that feels silky soft, keeps you cool when you sleep and doesn't wrinkle. I promise I won't tell if you're tempted to wear these on Zoom." — Marianne Canada, Senior Director and Executive Producer
Our Favorite Sweatpants
"Another good Target pick! It's unreal how soft these pants are. They just float on my body. I wear these year-round since they're thin and breathable for summer but cozy enough for winter. I usually pair it with a henley for my idea of the best lounging outfit." — Molly Miller, Assistant Editor
"These are the best sweatpants I have ever owned. I'm wearing them right now, in fact. They’re made from cozy fleece and have a comfortable elastic waistband that screams 'relax with me!' Plus, they’re nice enough to run errands in. I own a pair in black, but I plan on adding sage to my cart soon." — Kayla Kitts, Managing Editor
"I am obsessed with Lou & Grey Signaturesoft Sweatpants that are available at LOFT and come in multiple colors and sizes. The sweatpants are buttery soft, comfortable and take you from the house to running errands without having to change. I love how they have pockets along with a tapered leg that makes me feel more put together versus other sweatpants. They are a great legging alternative. I practically live in them and own multiple colors." — Jennifer Cicatelli, Senior Commerce Manager
Our Favorite Robes
"I have admittedly lived in this robe for the past two years working from home. There are days I put on this robe in the morning and I don't take it off until after 5 p.m. It is the one thing I will miss the most when I return to the office unless we can find a way to normalize robes in the workplace. I hate being cold getting out of the shower or bath, so this is the first thing I reach for to stay cozy. I love that it is long because it helps keep my legs warm, too. It also has pockets deep enough for a phone, maybe even snacks, for optimal comfort AND convenience." — Dana Dalrymple, SEO Analyst
"Wearing this robe feels like you've wrapped yourself in the plushest beach towel, and it's the perfect cozy robe for lounging at home. I love that it has pockets, too! I usually prefer to sleep in loose-fitting short pajamas but want an extra layer for warmth when I'm out of bed. This is the perfect robe to reach for after a shower before I'm ready to get into bed, when I'm getting out of bed in the morning to get coffee and start the day or just lounging around the house. While the robe always comes in classic neutral colors, Brooklinen often releases fun limited-edition colors and patterns, too." — Laura James, Editor
"After years of eyeing this Lunya robe, I caught it on sale just before Christmas and not so subtly let everyone know it was the No. 1 thing on my wish list. I adore it. The washable silk is so luxurious, and it drapes beautifully. I love the pockets and attached tie, but my favorite part may be the elastic cuffs, which especially come in handy for face washing. Paired with the matching pajama set I received two Christmases ago, this robe is ultra-luxe and one of my favorite gifts to date." — Keri Sanders, Editor
Our Favorite Slippers and Socks
"These podiatrist-recommended slippers make my feet so happy. The brand is known for its APMA-accepted footbeds that feature mattress foam padding (yes!) for comfort and loads of support. The soft fleece lining is warm and cozy, too. It's like walking on a cushy cloud. Plus, they're vegan, which is something that's super important to me. Naot also has boots, sneakers, sandals, clogs and more if you're looking for some good-for-your-feet shoes." — Kayla Kitts, Managing Editor
"I received these open-heel wool slippers as a gift, and they're the best slippers I've ever worn. The felted wool conforms to your feet so they stay on and keeps your feet cozy without making you sweat. I wear mine with and without socks, depending on how cold I am. The leather sole slippers are intended for indoor use only, but Glerups also has other styles with rubber soles, as well as different shoe styles like boot slippers." — Laura James, Editor
"If you haven’t hopped on the UGG train yet, it’s time. I never thought they’d be worth the hype, but after two years of working from home, I had time to try out a few different house slipper options, and let me tell you, nothing compared to UGG. Of the UGG slipper options, my favorite by far is the Coquette Slipper, which I found to be more attractive and less bulky looking in person. I’m constantly in and out of my house with my dog, so a slipper that can be worn outside was a must. The moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating sheepskin insole is another huge plus." — Keri Sanders, Editor
"These lounge socks are the best socks I've ever owned — seriously. They're meant to be worn indoors like slippers, so don't even think about putting on shoes. The thing I love the most is the super-soft terry-lined interior. Plus, you get more cushioning than your average pair of socks, and while it may not matter at home, the neutral hues go with everything." — Kayla Kitts, Managing Editor
