While it's well-known sleep helps us perform our best mentally, emotionally and physically in our daily lives, busy schedules and inevitable obstacles make obtaining sweet dreams feel like an elusive one. And poor sleep (especially chronically) can cause drowsiness and impair concentration and alertness, not to mention a bad case of bedhead, too.
We've all been there — including our editors, whose jobs happen to entail researching and testing hundreds of bedroom-related products. Super soft sheets and luxurious silk pillowcases can transport you to your very own sleep sanctuary, while supplements and skincare solutions promote beauty sleep like no other. Safe to say we're passionate and knowledgable about what it takes to get good-quality sleep, so it's only right to compile a long list of items we've tried, loved and can't sleep without to help you build your own night routine: everything from helping you fall asleep and staying asleep to keeping you cozy at night and refreshed in the morning. Bottom line, don't sleep on our editors' favorite products; you'll be counting sheep in no time.

Bedding
We take our bedding very seriously, as we've tested over 200 sheets, comforters, duvet covers, pillows, pillowcases and mattresses of various materials, sizes and colors, so these recommendations are ones you definitely shouldn't snooze. Swap out the pillow you've been using for years or splurge on hotel-quality sheets for a bed you'll constantly be craving to crawl back into.
"I made the switch to satin pillowcases years ago for frizz-free curls, but this bamboo set is even more of an upgrade. They feel like cotton, but they're smoother and better for your hair and skin (and even dermatologist-approved!). They come in a wide range of colors, so they were easy to match with the duvet cover I already had. And, while they're a bit of a splurge, I bought them on sale and paid with an HSA which felt like an incredible deal. I'll be going back for a set of sheets the next time they go on sale." — Sabrina Choudhary, Online Editorial Coordinator
"I thought about getting a silk pillowcase for years, knowing all the benefits for hair and skin, but I never actually got around to ordering one. Then, two years ago, my mom gifted me a Kitsch silk pillowcase for Christmas, and it quickly became a sleep staple. Not only is my hair noticeably smoother when I wake up, but sleep creases are basically nonexistent now. I've gotten so used to the feel of the silk that it's hard to sleep on anything else. In fact, I recently traveled for work, and my pillowcase was the first thing I packed. You could say I'm obsessed." — Ellie Sanders, Newsletter Editor
"I’ve tried so many sheet sets over the years, and cotton percale is my favorite material. Made from 100% long-staple cotton, this set from Riley Home is so crisp, breathable and well-constructed. I appreciate that the fitted sheet comes with a "top/bottom" tag to make putting them on an easy process. I like the simple stitching detail on the top sheet and the side-envelope closure on the pillowcases. The only downside is that stock can be hit or miss at times. If you’re looking for a solid everyday set of sheets, especially if you’re a hot sleeper, I highly recommend these sheets." — Laura James, Commerce Editor
"The Cozy Earth Bubble Cuddle Blanket is literally the softest blanket I’ve ever felt. The faux fur feels so luxurious and is supremely cuddly. It has a nice, mid-level weightiness to it, so you instantly feel yourself relax underneath it. If you love to take naps like I do, buy this blanket now! I promise you’ll never want to nap again without it – it’s that good! Even better? The bubble texture of the blanket looks so chic when draped over a chair, couch or bed." — Morgan Faulkner, Commerce Editor
"I've had my pillows for a while, so when I finally needed to refresh and update my bedding, I tried these down pillows from Ostermoor and sleeping has been like living in a hotel bed at the comfort of my home. They're so plush and soft, yet has all the great head support you need when dozing off." — Lauren Tom Cerone, Commerce Associate Editor
“What I really like about this comforter is that it’s super lightweight but it still keeps me incredibly warm when I need it to be. And, the cooling fabric ensures that it’s breathable and won’t make me sweaty and gross. I just know that I’ll still be able to use this comforter in the summer! The silky fabric is also super soft to the touch and gives that ultra-luxurious feel, which is great because I have sensitive skin and rougher fabrics can irritate it. This comforter ticks all the boxes for me!" — Amelia Chang, Editorial Assistant
"I tested ettitude’s Signature Sateen Sheet Set for our Best Bamboo Sheets roundup and absolutely fell in love. The sheets are lightweight, breathable and cool to the touch — ideal for hot sleepers like myself. My current favorite hue in their lineup is the “Butter” shade (trend alert!), which is perfect for spring and summer." — Morgan Faulkner, Commerce Editor
"I’m a side sleeper, which means I’m prone to common side-sleeper problems, like neck and shoulder pain. The Marshmalloo pillow (in the firmest option) provides more support than other pillows I’ve tried, while still feeling soft and cushy. It has noticeably alleviated a lot of tossing and turning and morning neck pain for me. My only note: The standard size did not fit in my standard pillow case, so I had to invest in a new, larger case." — Noelle Paredes, Online Editor
"ChappyWrap blankets have been my favorite throws for years. The standard size is 60” x 80”, so it’s perfectly oversized and extra cozy. (They also make a family-size blanket that fits a king or queen bed!) Bonus: All their blankets are machine washable." — Noelle Paredes, Online Editor
"I recently tried this FlexCool Adjustable Shredded Memory Foam Pillow from Sijo, and it offers a very similar sleeping experience to the viral Coop’s Original Adjustable Pillow. The FlexCool is also an adjustable pillow filled with shredded memory foam that comes with a bag of extra fill, allowing you to add or remove fill to find the perfect height and firmness for customizable comfort.
After letting Sijo's FlexCool Memory Foam Pillow expand out of the packaging and sleeping with its default fill for one night, I realized it was too thick and firm and removed about 1/5th of the shredded memory foam. Now, my head and neck feel perfectly supported. The outer shell of this pillow feels particularly cool to the touch compared to others I’ve tried, including Coop's Original Adjustable Pillow. (While Coop does sell a Cool+ pillow, it costs more than double what the FlexCool pillow does.) The FlexCool Memory Foam Pillow from Sijo is a great value if you prefer cooling pillows and want the option to customize your pillow’s loft." — Laura James, Commerce Editor

Alarms & Sound Machines
The universal dread of sleeping is the inevitable wake-up — but what if we told you waking up could be, dare we say, fun? Transport yourself to the beach or forest, or mimic the sensation of a gradual sunrise with any of these alarm clocks that are sure to get you up in a good mood (the people around you will thank you). Not to mention, most of these clocks are also sound machines that you can fall asleep to, from white or brown noise to a peaceful thunderstorm soundscape.
"The Hatch Restore 3 smart sleep clock has been a game-changer for both my wind-down and wake-up routines. Once I got the hang of navigating the app, I found it really fun to play around with the different color lights and sounds available with the free app. (You can also buy a monthly Hatch+ subscription for $49.99 a year after a month-long free trial for even more meditations, sounds and curated routines.) After initial setup in the app, it’s also easy to control daily routines directly on the device, which helps minimize the need to use my phone in bed.
The biggest change I’ve noticed is waking up in the mornings has been a lot easier and gentler — instead of starting the day with a rude awakening from an abrupt, blaring phone alarm, I now wake up to the Hatch gradually brightening and eventually playing a soft, soothing sound like wind chimes or a flute. I was a little worried the Hatch wouldn’t actually wake me up, but quite the opposite; sometimes, I wake up from just the gradual increase in light before the sound begins." — Laura James, Commerce Editor
"I splurged on this alarm clock as a birthday gift to myself, and it’s made my bedtime routine feel so much more relaxing and luxurious. I bought it so I could stop using the alarm app on my phone and avoid scrolling before bed, and while a more basic clock would've done the trick, the Loftie has some really cool features. It plays two different sounds in the morning to wake you up gradually, which really works! It also has a white noise function that I didn't think I would ever use, but now I fall asleep to it almost every night. I was surprised by how instantly it made me feel relaxed. Whenever I have to travel, I miss this alarm clock almost as much as my bed." — Sabrina Choudhary, Online Editorial Coordinator
"One of the most used items that was on my baby registry that I didn't think we would actually use was the Hatch Go. It was honestly one of those last minute picks to add to the list and I'm so grateful it ended up on there! As new parents, we learned that my daughter absolutely loved her sound machine that was stationed in her room, so having a portable one made sense. And it was a no brainer to take it everywhere with us, especially with the easy ring attachment. It literally could go everywhere when clipped on our diaper bag. Not only was it great for nap time on the go or when she was sleeping over at her grandparents' but it also helped calm her down. With 10 soothing sounds to choose from, including white noise, the ocean and hushing it's very easy to use by pressing the one central button. You just have to recharge the battery that will last up to 15 hours, plenty of time for baby to sleep." — Lauren Tom Cerone, Associate Commerce Editor
"I’ve always struggled to wake up in the morning, especially in the winter when my bedroom is still totally dark in the a.m. I swapped my standard alarm clock for this Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light years ago, and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever purchased. 20 to 40 minutes before the alarm is set to go off, the light simulates a sunrise, gradually getting brighter and changing from deep red to bright yellow. There are five soothing alarm sounds to choose from, or you can set it to FM radio. I find the gradual wake-up process much more pleasant than being jolted awake by the typical blaring alarm, and I always feel like it starts my day off on the right foot. You can also set the light to simulate a sunset at night to help you wind down and fall asleep." — Shannon Phillips, Managing Editor, Digital
"When I was pregnant with my son, I added this sound machine to my registry thinking it would be the perfect all-in-one nursery gadget: a sound machine, time-to-rise alarm, clock and a nightlight. However, when my son transitioned into his nursery, the sound machine stayed in my room. This machine quickly became something I couldn't sleep (as soundly) without. From the in-app features like sound variety (hello, brown noise) and auto-shutoff to the sleek aesthetic and touch power on and off, I would recommend this for anyone looking to upgrade their sleep sounds. It's worth every penny." — Ellie Sanders, Newsletter Editor
"My 5-year-old can’t tell time, and his internal clock has him waking at 5am some days, which is way too early for us. Our sleep improved when we got him an okay-to-wake clock — if he wakes up before the soft yellow light comes on, he’ll know to go back to sleep, stay in bed and rest or play quietly until it does come on. The nice thing about this one (besides the cute animal designs), is that it’s light and portable so we throw it in our bag whenever we travel." — Michelle Buffardi, VP, Multiplatform Digital Content
Sleep Tracking Apps
Sleep apps have become a big deal and a huge part part of bedtime routine when Oura Rings became trending everywhere. An easy way to track your sleep quality and and activity levels, the sensors on the ring can pick up the inner finger heart rate, blood oxygen levels, body temperature and sleep stages. This data can be synced to the app on your phone to provide personalized insights.
"A good night’s sleep is so valuable, it seems like I’ll try anything to win extra snooze time—magnesium cocoa, melatonin, sleep apps and meditation… the list goes on. After tracking sleep with my phone and Apple Watch and fighting with myself over what needed to be charged when, I decided to invest in an Oura ring— the 4, in brushed nickel, size 8 to be specific. After a month or so, I saw sleep patterns and ready-for-the-dayness and have been able to monitor how my workouts, activities, and heart rate connect to how well I’ve slept. For anyone fixated on optimizing precious sleep time, the long charge and data points are reassuring and helpful, all shared with guidance that brings confidence. Sleep tight!" — Debra Puchalla, SVP, Multiplatform Production & Digital Strategy
Sleepwear
Not only can cozy pajama sets make you feel so luxurious, but they also improve your overall sleep hygiene. The right pair of pajamas can help with temperature regulation, too. Safe to say nothing beats the feeling of jumping into a clean pair of PJs for a slumber free of discomfort and distractions.
"There's something so timeless and effortlessly chic about a matching pajama set. And when you're outfit feels complete (even for bedtime) you feel extra good about yourself! I've been a big fan of Petite Plume for awhile now, and I know that their pjs in their pima material are super soft and cozy to lounge in. This classic top and bottom silhouette combined with a botanical print in striking shades of blue and white is the ultimate comfort fit. You just feel so luxe everytime you go to bed and wake up in the morning!" — Lauren Tom Cerone, Associate Commerce Editor
“I think it’s scientifically proven that you’ll get better sleep if you’re wearing a cute and comfortable pajama set you love, or at least that’s what I tell myself. I love this silk top and matching wide-leg pants from Quince, a direct-to-consumer brand known for its affordable luxury products and transparency, from cashmere sweaters starting at $50 to 100% silk pajamas. The pants feature slits up the sides and are high-waisted, and the shirt is cropped and loose. The washable silk has a 19 momme count and more of a matte finish compared to other silk pajamas I’ve tried. It’s probably a placebo effect, but I swear I sleep better when I wear this set.” — Laura James, Commerce Editor
"Even your little ones find comfort when their pajamas are made from the dreamiest fabrics. Soft to the touch, this onesie also features fold-over feet & mittens to keep baby's feet and hands extra toasty, a 2-way zipper for easy night changings, and no itchy tags! This luna moon print is perfect to snooze away in but they also have plenty of other fun colors and patterns to try too. Little Sleepies also offers matching pjs for moms and dads! And most importantly, when baby has a restful sleep, everyone has a restful sleep!" — Lauren Tom Cerone, Associate Commerce Editor
Eyewear
When it comes to your eyes, reducing any discomfort and straining can improve your overall sleep quality. During the day, blue light glasses can help with reducing digital eye strain and sleep masks can help block out as much light as possible for a better night's rest.
"By now, everyone's heard that Blue Light isn't great for you. But I hadn't really looked into its impact on sleep until I became a mom and was getting very little (read: barely any) sleep — and spending those late‑night feedings scrolling, a.k.a. soaking up lots of blue light. After doing some research, I learned that blue light interferes with sleep by reducing your body’s melatonin production, the hormone that helps you fall asleep. Sure, you can supplement melatonin, but another way to reduce blue-light's impact is by wearing blue-light-blocking glasses. I've tried a few pairs in the past, but nothing compares to Felix Gray. Their frames are comfortable, feature a double‑sided anti‑glare coating, and (best of all!) don’t have the slightly tinted lenses that scream “I'm wearing blue-light glasses.” Felix Gray also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can give them a try risk-free. But if you're anything like me, you won't be sending them back." — Ellie Sanders, Newsletter Editor
"A friend gifted me this silky, satiny mask years ago as a birthday present, and I was hooked once I tried it. The eye pad is so soft, the head strap is secure without being too tight and when I can’t fall asleep on my own it’s the first tool I reach for." — Lauren Tom Cerone, Associate Commerce Editor
"I like the idea of a weighted sleep mask, but I found the elastic strap that went around the head to be so uncomfortable while trying to sleep. Instead, I recommend the Nodpod Gentle Pressure Sleep Mask. The innovative design lays across the face to avoid the pesky elastic and is designed with side sleepers in mind. If you’re a stomach sleeper or want to use it while sitting upright, simply pull the corner through the slit on the other end to secure the mask in place. Bonus: You can even put the mask in the freezer!" — Morgan Faulkner, Commerce Editor

Wellness & Skincare
Night routines are vital to waking up rejuvenated and ready for a new day, and our editors can speak on the importance of winding yourself down and doing what you need to feel 100% you before bed. Whether it's taking time for yourself in a long shower, sipping a calming cup of hot tea, curling your hair or applying soothing moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated overnight, listening to and caring for your body will always lead to the best quality sleep.
"This Kitsch satin heatless curling set is an essential part of my night-time routine. These easy-to-use heatless curlers are a perfect way to wake up with flawless curls without spending hours on perfecting how to use a curling iron and damaging your hair in the process. This product is a night-time favorite and keeps my hair healthy! You also won't lose sleep when you go to bed in them because its cushy material is so comfy on the scalp!" — Grace Tylee, Commerce Editorial Intern
"I swear by Lush’s Sleepy Body Lotion and use it nightly, but the costs can add up quickly when purchasing it often. Dr. Teal’s Melatonin Sleep Lotion is a great, budget-friendly alternative with a comparable soothing lavender scent that’s perfect for bedtime. The addition of melatonin and chamomile essential oils with the lavender encourages relaxation, while shea and cocoa butters moisturize the skin while you sleep." — Morgan Faulkner, Commerce Editor
"I take OLLY multivitamins every day and love them, so when I was searching for a product to help me fall asleep, I turned to the brand’s Sleep gummies. The blended formula features three milligrams of melatonin and actually allows me to stay asleep throughout the night. I also always have a pack with me while traveling." — Morgan Faulkner, Commerce Editor
“Part of my nighttime wind-down routine is drinking a caffeine-free herbal tea. Sometimes I do chamomile or a bedtime blend, but I always come back to this peppermint one from Harney & Sons. It’s so flavorful and calming. Plus, the decorative green tins the tea comes in are great for repurposing as a storage container or even a DIY candle vessel or flower vase.” — Laura James, Commerce Editor

Not only is the lavender scent absolutely luxurious, but it's a way to calm down my senses and puts me in the perfect headspace for dreaming. You can spray directly onto your sheets, pillows and even spritz on your clothing for a refreshing dose of aromatherapy goodness." — Lauren Tom Cerone, Associate Commerce Editor
"I am also a fan of P. F. Candle Co.'s diffusers. I find the scent of lavender incredibly relaxing, and this one is a great choice to have in your room.
