True to the brand's claims, this set from Lands' End turned out to be the softest we tested. The five-ounce combed-cotton flannel has a medium thickness and a sturdy feel, but it was still remarkably soft right out of the packaging.
After running it through the wash, the fabric was even softer. The brand says it's longer-lasting than similar products, and seeing that washing and tumble-drying didn't cause pilling, snags or loose threads, we think this is likely true. The pillowcases did shrink about a half-inch in the wash, but again, this resulted in a better fit.
Thanks to the fitted sheet's extra-deep corner pockets, it fit effortlessly over a thick pillow-top mattress. But without any "head/foot" indicators, there may be some guessing and checking when making a king-size bed. The ultra-soft material offered lightweight warmth during the night without sacrificing airflow or causing sweating.

We appreciate how the casual, everyday look is balanced out with an upscale quality. The fabric wasn't quite as soft as others out of the box, but as the brand claims, it did get softer with every wash (and washing is recommended before the first use). Post-wash, the pillowcases measured about a quarter-inch smaller, but this didn't affect the fit at all. The shrinkage could be because the weave isn't as dense as other options.
