Watch a Sneak Peek: 'Battle on the Beach' Season 5 Introduces New Twists
Sarah Baeumler, Mika Kleinschmidt and Ty Pennington are the esteemed beach house mentors of this season. HGTV has all the details.
HGTV’s epic surfside home renovation competition Battle on the Beach will head to the Grand Strand, South Carolina’s hot vacation destination for a new, seven-episode season, premiering Monday, June 1 at 9|8c.
Who Are the Season 5 Mentors?
This season HGTV stars Sarah Baeumler (Rock the Block), Mika Kleinschmidt (100 Day Dream Home) and Ty Pennington (Rock the Block) are each mentoring one two-person team of promising renovators as they vie to transform lackluster beachfront vacation properties — the biggest homes in Battle on the Beach history — into waterfront escapes.
What to Expect From Season 5
Armed with $100,000, seven weeks and invaluable advice from their respected mentors, the teams will overhaul the dated digs while navigating design challenges — including repurposing discarded roadside finds in their homes and swapping partners for the chance at additional prize money.
Husband-and-wife renovation duo Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama, hosts of Renovation Aloha, will judge the competition. The weekly winners will be given a critical choice: Take home $3,000 now or apply $6,000 to the final grand prize.
When the renos are complete, the team who clinches the highest peak season rate for their short-term rental will claim a cash prize of at least $50,000. And the winning mentor will get ultimate bragging rights.
Who Is Competing in Season 5?
- Team Sarah: Married couple Steven and Angelina Jacobs of Waterbury, Connecticut
- Team Mika: Husband-wife team Josiah and Anna Julian of Baltimore, Maryland
- Team Ty: Mother-daughter duo Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence of Lincoln, Nebraska
In the two-hour premiere, Sarah, Mika and Ty will guide their teams in creating the ideal first impression in the living room (which also provides the best ocean views). In the kick-off challenge race through Garden City, the teams will follow clues in hopes of reaching the pier first to win a top advantage: choosing their preferred beach house and assigning the other two properties to the competitors. As the season continues, the teams will design more vacation-worthy rooms, including the kitchens, dining rooms, main suites, guest bedrooms, bathrooms and exteriors.
