After appearing on My Lottery Dream Home Season 12, homeowners John and Danielle bought a 130-year-old home only to discover it was already occupied!
On My Lottery Dream Home, host David Bromstad helps people who have come in to lottery winnings find their perfect home. In Season 12, David helped homeowners John and Danielle, who were gifted part of John’s dad’s winnings, explore three homes around Salem, Massachusetts.

Danielle and John's Salem-area home made My Lottery Dream Home history as one of the oldest homes ever featured on the show — and is likely making history again as the first haunted house on the show.
Salem, widely known for the famous Salem Witch Trials, is believed to be filled with supernatural spirits, and during the episode, David leaned heavily into this. He dressed mostly in black — which, if you know anything about David, is not his usual look — and stopped mid-filming on more than one occasion when strange noises interrupted him.
“I hear voices in the wind,” David said mid-take while filming this episode on location in Salem, Massachusetts.
Four years after helping John and Danielle find their perfect home, a five-bedroom house built in 1890 (at the time, the oldest house ever featured on My Lottery Dream Home), it turns out those noises David was hearing while filming may not have just been his imagination.
“Our house is haunted. We do have a ghost,” Danielle recently shared on a special episode of My Lottery Dream Home: Where Are They Now?
While some homeowners may have packed their bags and high-tailed it out of there, John and Danielle believe she — “I think it’s a girl,” Danielle said — means no harm.
“It’s a friendly ghost,” John agreed.
The couple has found their fireplace turned on for no reason, seen lights flicker and “every once in a while … she'll like move something,” Danielle said.
She’s even been known to celebrate the holidays. “We were out of town for Christmas visiting family and someone finished the advent calendar,” John said, bemused.
John and Danielle have grown accustomed to the playful ghost that they seem to have inherited with their 1890 home.
“She’s prob[ably] super happy you’re her living humans,” one Instagram commenter said.
“If she wasn’t happy you would know!” said another.
It’s an unconventional living situation for sure, but luckily, their ghost’s behavior does not bother John and Danielle, so they are happy to share living quarters with this spirited spirit. Danielle also says that she understands that most people associate Salem with Halloween, but there is much more to the quaint Northeastern town than meets the eye. And no, we’re still not talking about the supernatural! Danielle and John love to explore all of the nearby family farms on the weekends and take in the beauty of the area. “I love Massachusetts. I will never leave,” she said.
