If you love the warm, welcoming homes Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt create on 100 Day Dream Home, take a layered approach to decorating this fall. Mix warm wood tones, woven textures and metallic finishes like brass or copper to give a room more depth without making it feel overly seasonal. The duo used the same approach in the HGTV Smart Home 2026 kitchen, layering wood, wicker and warm metallic lighting for a collected feel. For a fall update that feels more elevated than overtly seasonal, take a cue from Christina Haack and bring in the velvet. The Christina on the Coast designer often favors polished, comfortable spaces, and the rich fabric adds warmth without sacrificing her signature California-cool style. Here, Christina used a rust-colored velvet sofa to make a statement, but you can get the look with less commitment, too. Try velvet throw pillows, blankets or an upholstered ottoman in earthy fall shades.

If you want to fall-ify your sleek space, take some tips from Tarek and Heather El Moussa and mix wood tones. For their kitchen renovation on Season 1 of The Flip Off, Heather pushed for custom cabinetry in contrasting white oak and walnut, proving you don't need to choose between light and dark finishes. Bring the look home by pairing pale oak with walnut or espresso tones. Think furniture (footstools, end tables, benches) or decor. Home Town hosts Ben and Erin Napier will tell you: Nothing brings old-house charm to a room quite like patterned wallpaper. (And when it comes to patterned walls in the fall, you can't lose.) Erin frequently uses the wall covering to add color and character, with patterns ranging from vintage-inspired florals to whimsical prints. You don't need to redecorate the whole room to try it: Start with a favorite piece of art, rug or patterned textile, then pull a few of its earth tones into pillows, throws and decorative accents.

Old wood with a story is right in Jenny and Dave Marrses’ wheelhouse. The Fixer to Fabulous duo is known for preserving character while bringing historic spaces up to date, making reclaimed wood a natural fit for fall. Keep existing ceiling beams and paneling when you’re lucky enough to have them, or bring the warmth to a newer home with a reclaimed-wood mantel, a wooden stool or wooden picture frames (like Jenny and Dave did in their Christmas-ready home). Pair the timeworn finish with earthy fall colors and soft textiles.

Take your fall decorating outside with a little inspiration from Ty Pennington. The Rock the Block and Battle on the Beach host has never been afraid to turn unexpected materials into design features, including the sculptural driftwood headboard from this Battle on the Beach bedroom. You don't need to build furniture to get the look. Gather interesting branches, dried grasses, seed pods or pinecones on your next walk, then display your finds in a favorite vase, bowl or basket for free fall decor with plenty of natural texture.

Fall design doesn't always have to mean moody and dark. Renovation Aloha stars Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama often lean bright and airy in their Oahu-based home renovations. They decorated the countertops of this kitchen with dark yellow flowers and a bowl of oranges — a vignette in sunny shades that also offers autumnal flair. To pull off a brighter look in your own home, style dahlias, sunflowers or chrysanthemums in a vase. Add a bowl of your favorite seasonal fruit or vegetable, and you're ready to snack your way through fall in style.

Give your home a little extra warmth this fall with leather accents. Love It or List It designer Page Turner used a cognac leatherette banquette in this family dining space to add rich color while creating plenty of practical seating. Take the idea beyond the dining room with a leather accent chair, ottoman or smaller accessories in warm caramel and chocolate shades. It's an easy way to introduce autumnal color and texture without reaching for overtly seasonal decor.

Go bold with fall color a la Windy City Rehab star Alison Victoria, who has become a big fan of decorating with green. “Bringing in the green has been something I have just been obsessed with,” Alison said while designing her Rock the Block kitchen, where she paired layers of the saturated shade with a warm brass island. Bring the combination home with hunter green paint or upholstery, then add brass lighting, hardware or decorative accents for a rich fall look that still works long after the season ends.
