How to Paint a Pattern on a Wall
David A. Land (Styled by Matthew Gleason)
What you'll need:
- low-tack painter's tape or repositionable spray mount
- paint (2 colors, or shades)
- stencil
- paint tray
- dense foam roller
Step 1
Paint a wall the lighter of two colors. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 2
Adhere the stencil to one corner of the wall with low-tack painter’s tape or repositionable spray mount.
Step 3
Pour a small amount of the darker color into a paint tray. Load a dense foam roller with the paint, and use it to fill in the stencil. Carefully remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.
Step 4
Position the stencil right next to where you painted the first design so they line up, being careful not to smudge the wet paint. Fill in the stencil as described in step 3.
Step 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you’ve stenciled the entire wall. Let dry.
