Erin Napier Reveals Her Favorite Room to Decorate

Artist, designer and co-host of Home Town, Erin Napier, knows all about how t o design inviting and collected homes, and with the recent surge of interest in grandmillennial designs, cottagecore style and Nancy Meyers-inspired interiors, we've been looking to Erin for design inspo. Her careful balance of textiles, wallpaper and handcrafted furniture — built by Erin's husband and co-host Ben Napier — proves to be the perfect formula for a cozy, warm and personal home. But when it comes to Erin's very-favorite room to renovate, fans had to know which space she favors.

In a recent clip on TikTok, she told HGTV: "I like to decorate a bedroom. There’s so much opportunity in fabric and textiles and art. You can layer; you can keep it simple; you can have lots of books.”

Each of Erin's Home Town bedroom designs vary, but they all boast one commonality: her signature warmth. Think comfy textiles, antique wooden furniture and unique pieces of art, which she usually keeps on the smaller side.

How to Get Erin's Style in Your Bedroom

First, Erin focuses on developing a livable and family-friendly space, then she adds style. This classic combination delivers a well-loved, timeless and meaningful space — with just the right amount of maximalist flair.

When she wants color, Erin often turns to wallpaper. She even has a peel-and-stick wallpaper collection with York Wallcoverings. In her daughter Helen’s room, Erin used whimsical wallpaper to highlight the vaulted ceilings. The floral pattern paired with wooden spindle furniture gives the space an eclectic, storybook ambiance.

In the main bedroom in her English country Tudor, Erin embraced the home’s historic 1930s lineage with charming built-ins and a rolling library ladder. The dreamy setup, tucked into a corner of the open-layout room, is yet another example of a new trend Erin has been using in her designs for years: bookshelf wealth. Of course the room is full of special furnishings, hand-turned, carved, and built by Ben — including the nightstand and hope chest at the end of the bed. (The bed was built by one of Ben’s woodworking heroes, Andrew Reid). Erin opted for worn, global-inspired textiles for the bedding and a small rug in the library area to give the room the collected look seen in many of her designs.

Miniature art hangs above the shelves, and picture lights add character and texture. An oversized rug grounds the space in comfort. Lucky for us, Erin shared her biggest tip for picking out the perfect sized rug.

“If you think it’s big enough, get it a little bit bigger. A rug doesn’t need to look chintzy. A rug should be generous," she said. “Same rule applies to tinfoil. If you think you’ve pulled off enough, get some more.”
