Upgrade an Outdated Chandelier
Designer Donna Moss demonstrates a quick and simple technique for giving a plain, dated chandelier a custom faux-antique look.
Materials Needed:
- chandelier
- antique-finish spray paint
- decorative candle sleeves
- chandelier crystals
Apply Spray Paint
If you have a dated chandelier (Image 1) that you'd like to give a distinctive and classic look, begin by spray-painting the chandelier using a nice antique paint finish (Image 2). Use a bronze or other antique finish.
Add Decorative Candle Sleeves
Replace the plain and dated candle sleeves with more unique, decorative candle sleeves (Image 1). The ones selected here are made to look like actual wax pillar candles (Image 2). Candle sleeves like these can be purchased at most custom lighting stores.
Add Hanging Crystals
Attach magnetic crystals (Image 1). These crystals come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Find crystals like these at custom lighting stores or online. Once all of the crystals are attached, reinstall the light bulbs (Image 2).
