Materials Needed:

  • cloth
  • dishwashing soap
  • medium-grit sandpaper
  • spray primer for metal
  • gloss finish spray paint in various colors
  • painter's tape

Step 1

Wipe down the chairs with the cloth and soapy water.

Step 2

Rough up the metal and remove any rust patches with the sandpaper, then wipe down the chairs again to remove any dirt or grit.

Step 3

Prime the entire chair and let dry. Then paint the chair’s lower support bars (the bars between the legs). No need to tape off anything yet, since you can cover up splatters with the second color. For an extra-glossy finish, use at least three coats of paint, allowing paint to dry between each coat.

Step 4

Tape off the painted support bars and spray the rest of the chair with the second color. Again, for a glossy finish, use at least three coats, letting paint dry completely between coats. Krylon indoor/outdoor paint in (from left) Citrus Green, Pumpkin Orange, Raspberry, and Global Blue was used here.
