Fold a Bill Into an Origami Heart
Make the gift of cash even more thoughtful in a few simple steps.

The gift of cash — always welcome, but if you’re anything like me, can make a gift giver feel like they need to try a little harder. That’s when learning to fold bills into origami hearts becomes a valuable life skill that’ll make your gift stand out. It’s easy and will take less than a minute once you get the hang of it.

Make First Fold

Lay your bill flat, and fold it in half to the left to create a crease down the center. A fresh, uncirculated bill looks best.
Fold Both Sides

Emily Fazio
Unfold, and guide both left and right edges inward to line up with the center crease.
Flip Over

Emily Fazio
Flip the folded square over.
Fold Corners Upwards

Emily Fazio
Fold the two lower corners upwards at 45-degree angles until they meet. Crease into position.
Fold Down Top

Emily Fazio
Fold the top of the bill down, creasing so it touches but does not overlap the previous folds.
Form Triangular Creases

Emily Fazio
Use your finger to separate the layers of the fold you made in the previous step. Form new triangular creases on both sides.
Finish Heart Shape

Fold down and crease the inner flaps to finish the heart shape.
