Choose a board approximately 20 inches long and 8 inches wide. The size can be adjusted according to the preference or need. Sand all surfaces until smooth, and apply your preferred stain.
Measure and Cut Leather
To determine where to cut the leather, mock up the shelf by wrapping the strips around the board once, joining the leather at the ends. Place the shelf against its future spot on the wall, and adjust the leather as needed to reach the desired length. Once determined, mark the leather with a pencil, and cut both strips to the desired length using a utility knife.
Add Grommets

Once the leather has been cut to length, add grommets to each end of the strips to add strength and durability to the leather.
Hang and Decorate

Hang the shelf on the wall using decorative screw hooks. Be sure you choose hardware that can support the weight of your shelf as well as anything you plan to place on it. Make this unique shelf even more beautiful with stacked books, fresh blooms or a decorative candle tin.
