Man-of-His-Word Chip Gaines Gets One Serious Haircut

He said he would, and then he did. Chip cuts off his hair (all of it!), and for the best of reasons.

Two weeks ago we reported on a certain news item called "Operation Haircut" in which Mr. Chip Gaines, of Fixer Upper fame, issued a challenge to fans that might just result in him shearing off the newly long locks and shaggy beard — something that's stirred some controversy among Fixer Upper followers as more recent photos of Chip started circulating on the web and social media.

Chip asked fans (particularly those who were not fans of his recent long-haired look) to donate money to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. As it happened, Chip and Joanna were traveling to Memphis where they would be visiting the famed research hospital. The stated mission of St. Jude is to be a worldwide leader in finding ways to treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. True to the vision of it's founder Danny Thomas, at St. Jude's no child is ever denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

"Donate to @StJude through the link in my profile," said Chip in an Instagram post, "and the more money we raise over the next four days, the shorter my hair goes."

Last week, he proved to the world he wasn't kidding. Joanna broke the news on her Instagram account, saying: "We are leaving Memphis changed. Kiddos of @stjude we go with your faces on our minds and your stories in our hearts...We are cheering you on every step of the way." The message was accompanied with a photo of Chip surrounded by a bevy adoring St. Jude kids — and Chip as bald as a billiard ball.

Fans who know Chip as something of a fearless soul and possessed of a tender heart just got to see a great example of just how committed he can be when the cause is worthy. Nice work — and nice look — Mr. Gaines!
