Materials and Tools:
edge banding (1" and 3"), 56 inches in length
tape measure
scissors
gloves
hot iron
pendant wire
light bulb
Instructions:
Measure and cut multiple edge banding strips to 56 inches. After you cut the first strip, use it as a template to cut remaining six strips to make the base of the sphere.

Create a circle by overlapping two ends by a couple inches. Use a hot iron to press the ends together. The iron-on edge banding is pre-coated with heat-activated glue that will create a permanent bond once it's cooled. Repeat until there are 5-6 edge banding circles.

Attach two circles in an X pattern and iron press them together. Continue to add circles in a criss cross pattern, filling the gaps. All vertical pieces are now complete.

Run a circle of edge banding horizontally around the sphere to hold everything together.

Hang the sphere on a pendant wire, and continue wrapping with edge banding to give a beehive effect. Incorporate larger strips to break up smaller strips and to add depth and texture to the piece.

Screw in a light bulb.
