Our Favorite Laundry Room Rugs and Mats
Turn your boring chore center into a stylish space with a brand-new rug.
When you think about area rugs and rug runners, you probably think of the dining room or the living room, but why not the laundry room? This area doesn’t have to be blank, beige and boring. You can add a fun laundry room sign, paint the walls a bold color or simply add a rug.
Accent rugs are one of the easiest ways to inject color and personality into a space, and no room needs a style boost more than the laundry room. Beyond looks, padded rugs (also known as anti-fatigue rugs) add support for your feet and back while you load, sort and fold. We’ve rounded up our favorite laundry room rugs and runners, from boho Persian-inspired to trendy penny tiles. Take a look at our top picks below — most under $100! — and treat yourself to a mini laundry room makeover.
Choosing the Right Laundry Room Rug
When shopping for a laundry room rug, the most important thing to look for is the material. Unlike other rooms, laundry rooms are packed with excess moisture. You don’t want anything 100-percent cotton, as it will hold and retain water, which can lead to mold and mildew. This also is not the best place for an antique rug. (Though we do have some great faux options below!) Look for materials that are waterproof or water-resistant, like an outdoor patio rug, or look for rugs that you can easily wipe clean, such as vinyl. Another great option is a rug that is machine-washable such as Ruggable’s collection of washable area rugs.
