Materials Needed
- outdoor pouf
- exterior acrylic paint
- compass and alphabet stencils
- stencil brush
- plate or paint palette
- painter's tape
Secure Compass Stencil
Once you determine where the compass design will be positioned, tape it into place.

Apply Paint
To avoid paint leaking under the edges of the stencil, lightly load the brush then "pounce" paint onto the stenciled design. Be sure to hold the brush perpendicular to the stencil and apply paint by touching the brush to the surface rather than dragging it along as you typically would when painting. (Image 1). Add paint along the edges and work toward the inside of the compass stencil (Images 2 and 3). Tip: If your design requires multiple stencils, be sure to allow the paint to fully dry between steps.

Remove Stencil
Allow to dry, then remove painter's tape and stencil (Images 1 and 2).

Step 3 – Remove Stencil
Paint Letters
Hold the letter stencil in place and fill in with navy paint using the same perpendicular, pouncing technique (Image 1). Repeat until north, south, east and west headings are complete. Allow paint to full dry before use (Image 2).
