Prep Shutter

Whether you are using a new or upcycled shutter, begin the process of creating your shutter basket by sanding down the surface of the shutter. We recommended wearing a mask during sanding to protect against lead paint. Create a more rustic-looking piece by leaving some paint on the shutter. Once the necessary sanding has been completed, wipe down the surface with a towel to remove any dust. Spray the shutter with an acrylic spray paint to seal the surface.

Paint a small piece of wood with chalkboard paint. Once the paint has dried, line the underside of the sign with hot glue and attach to the top of the shutter. Label the shutter according to its contents

S-hooks are the perfect piece to attach the wire basket to the shutter. Typically they can only be found in a metal finish, therefore, to match the shutter, cover in a layer of spray paint. Once dried, hang the s-hooks on the shutter according to where the wire baskets should be placed. Attach the shutter directly to the wall or place on a countertop for a leaning tower of goodies. Finally, hang the wire baskets on the hooks and fill with your favorite fruits or vegetables.
