Easily (and Cheaply!) Craft Watercolor Easter Eggs
Give wooden eggs a colorful and totally on-trend Easter makeover using items you probably already have on-hand. You can keep the artsy fun all to yourself or get an assist from the kiddos. Best of all: These handcrafted cuties can be displayed year after year.

Materials Needed
- wooden eggs, painted white
- permanent markers in assorted colors
- rubbing alcohol with a wide spray setting
- spray bottle
- empty toilet paper roll
- disposable paper or plastic to protect surface
- paper towels
Get Creative
First, protect your work surface with disposable paper or plastic to prevent accidental stains. Now for the fun part: Cover the surface of the eggs with whatever pattern you like — geometric, floral, swirls, stripes, dots — whatever. Layer colors to create depth and for a more realistic watercolor effect (Images 1-3). Tip: Be sure to leave some white space in your design to prevent all the running colors from becoming muddy in the next step.

Spray on Alcohol
Pour rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle with a wide spray setting. Cut toilet paper tube in half and use it as a stand to keep the egg stationary. Spray on alcohol, moving the spray bottle around the egg (Image 1). Allow some drips and runs to form as the alcohol breaks down the ink (Image 2).

Stop the Process
When the egg has your desired watery look, gently blot with a paper towel (Image 1) and set aside to allow the watercolor pattern to dry. Group finished eggs in a variety of colors and patterns together to brighten up any Easter or spring display (Image 2).
