Last night, Jesse Tyler Ferguson stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to talk all things Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Modern Family. He also revealed some really big — might we say extreme — news: He and husband Justin Mikita are expecting a baby!

What started as a casual conversation about what it was like to be in your forties soon became a surprise baby announcement. “This is something I haven’t even mentioned to anyone. I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband,” said Jesse. James and the audience erupted into cheers and congratulations. “I’m very excited. I’m 44 now. Let’s get this show going,” he added.

When asked if they are expecting a boy or a girl, Jesse replied, “a human.” A very lucky little human, we might add, who is very blessed to have Jesse and Justin as parents.

After the big announcement, the conversation turned to how Modern Family only has three episodes left to film. “It’s incredibly sad. It’s something I’ve been doing for 11 years,” Jesse said. But James had a really nice thought: “You should think, I’m leaving Modern Family behind and come July, you’re going to make your new modern family and it’s going to be beautiful.” So true and so sweet.
