'Decorating Cents': How to Watch Joan Steffend's Kooky DIY Decorating Show

We want the ‘90s back. Or do we? HGTV's whacky DIY show, Decorating Cents, is going viral after Rob Anderson, a content creator and comedian (@heartthrobanderson), posted several clips of host Joan Steffend’s kooky designs accompanied by his own scathing and hilarious commentary.

Decorating Cents, which aired from 1997 through 2008, follows Joan as she drums up creative room makeovers for less than $500 — or, as Rob describes it, “take[s] a perfectly normal room and makes it worse.” Joan is not afraid to attempt even the most out-of-the-box DIY ideas, which vary from painting rugs; hanging colorful water pitchers in front of windows “for a stained-glass effect”; and gluing (!) colorful wall tiles haphazardly onto a kitchen backsplash.

“Off to a rough start,” says Rob in one video, after watching Joan and her “accomplice” (designer Nancy Golden, who is the mother of designer and HGTV host Nate Berkus) paint the tray ceiling of a kitchen in three shades of neon. “It's looking like a preschool.”

Of course, HGTV fans old and new, are freaking out in the best way.

"I don’t know how you ended up in my feed, but I am forever thankful you did,” wrote one Instagram user on Rob’s video. “This is a gold mine of cringe and hilarity all at once!

"I need more of this train wreck," wrote another.
