Channeling Christina’s Coastal Chic Is a Breeze
Christina on the Coast invites viewers to hop in the passenger seat beside host Christina Hall as she zips up and down PCH, demonstrating (one home at a time) that warm-weather hygge is definitely a thing. Seeming contradictions, in fact, are kinda her brand: She can make neutrals feel edgy, give a newborn’s nursery a worldly boho vibe and even exude wellness-guru cool in the middle of countless design projects. Cultivate some of that luxe, layered and livable style with pointers pulled from her very best spaces.

In the Kitchen: Interior Doorways as Frames
This graceful white kitchen and the crisp black upper cabinets in the pantry beyond it function like modern sculpture, thanks to Christina’s canny use of visual contrast. Hanging art is a wonderful thing, but thinking about the impression your rooms create when viewed from other rooms is three-dimensional chess.

In the Kitchen: Panel-Ready Appliances
Christina carried opulent wooden cabinetry from floor to ceiling in this bespoke kitchen, where a fully-integrated refrigerator is virtually indistinguishable from the (very generous) storage. The extended surface envelops the room in warmth and leads the eye through the picture window above the sink and straight to the verdant view.

In the Kitchen: Accordion Doors
If views get your heart racing, prepare to fall head over heels for Christina’s MVP (most valuable partition) for indoor-outdoor living. These crisp accordion doors fold back easily and unobtrusively to dissolve the boundary between this home’s interior and its pool deck. We love the nubbly runner shifted a quarter-turn to dry damp feet scampering in from outside.

In the Kitchen: Customized Strip Lighting
Christina’s staging expertise shines through in this airy kitchen, where the soaring ceiling doesn’t lend itself to extensive overhead illumination. Instead, she installed a quartet of luxe picture lights along the top of the Zellige tile backsplash and added fantastically atmospheric (and inexpensive) strip lighting along the bottom front edges of its blonde wood floating shelves. When the sun goes down, this room will glow with warmth.
In the Kitchen: Two-Toned Cabinets
Christina color-blocked this cook space to maximize visual impact without gobbling up floor or counter space. The sleek chevron-patterned tile she chose to install between them — and to carry up and around the window — integrates the tones while adding a touch of luxury.

In the Kitchen: Lacquered White and Funky Tile
Christina carried fashion into this high-concept kitchen, where the ultra-sleek white walls, cabinetry, countertops and island end with a flourish at a one-of-a-kind feature wall above the range. Dark, handmade subway tile gives way to stylized white teardrops and mimics the feel of a large-scale abstract canvas (at a fraction of the price).

At the Home Bar: Collected Containers
As an entertainer par excellence, Christina knows building a beautiful bar begins with decanting both liquor and snacks. Consider how canisters and cut glass have pulled together this tableau. Instead of presenting a hodgepodge of bottles, she makes a playful set of tinted glasses the stars of the show, and she counterbalances them with the warmth of wood.

On the Patio: Indoor-Outdoor Tricks
Speaking of bars, might Christina introduce you to the concept of pass-through-to-the-patio bartending? This is the ultimate playful-yet-practical southern Californian move: Sturdy shutters open to extend the kitchen into the balmy backyard, and vice versa. Other picture windows, please try harder.

In the Living Room: Floor Pillows
Casual comfort is central to California-chic spaces, and this intuitive array of ottomans and floor pillows invite guests to kick off their shoes and relax. Take a cue from Christina and introduce a bit of seating (and all-out lounging) versatility to the living room.

In the Living Room: Crisp Textiles and Rounded Seating
The sharp contrasts Christina loves are downright cozy in this space, thanks to the fact that she deploys black against white on throw pillows and a pair of ottomans. That strong-yet-soft statement makes more traditional, curvaceous pieces like the old-school wicker armchair and neutral sofa feel more contemporary.
In the Living Room: The Just-So Throw
If Christina had a signature move, it might well be her inimitably-artful way with cozy throws. The graphic, tasseled Mediterranean blanket she draped over this sofa and the chunky ivory knit she paired with the vintage-inspired rattan chair makes both pieces more inviting. She’s quite literally added a layer to the living room’s design.

In the Dining Room: Oh-So Retro
Christina made a strong style statement in this dining room with major midcentury Palm Springs vibes. The head-to-toe vintage look she develops with this brassy, geometric table and chairs, rich mirror and Sputnik-style pendant is perfect for an occasional space.
In the Stairwell: Multiple Pendants
A spectacular, two-story space like this one calls for statement lighting, but who says it has to be a costly or fussy chandelier? This trio of assorted rattan pendants is textural, playful and congruent with the rest of the home’s laid-back, organic vibe. Even better: It’s a snap to swap them out for other shades in the years to come.

In the Bedroom: Textural Greenery
Christina made the most of this serene suite’s wealth of windows by creating a private jungle. These high-impact, low-maintenance house plants feel like an extension of the southern California home’s outdoor space — but they don’t compromise the bedroom’s privacy. Now that’s luxury.

In the Bedroom: Layered Area Rugs
Those just-so throws Christina arranges effectively on living room seating have multiple counterparts in the bedroom. Blankets cozy up the desk chair and bed in this room, but the real textile stars are the pair of offset rugs. While a single, massive floor covering would have felt outdated here, this casual arrangement feels fresh.
In the Bedroom: Earth Tones
As Christina knows, SoCal is celebrating the ‘70s all over again with rich, rusty hues like this ocher duvet and on-trend Kelly Wearstler drapes. Paired with creamy off-whites, it’s the ideal tone for a restful bedroom.

In the Nursery: Grown-Up Moves
Christina gave her own son’s first bedroom intimate, organic charm by hanging a massive macrame piece on the wall above an adorably scaled-down bistro set and a creamy, boho Moroccan area rug. Neutrals like these will suit her little boy long after he’s grown out of his crib.

In the Bathroom: A Grass Cloth Feature Wall
Christina gave this sleek bathroom a bit of natural texture with nubbly grass cloth behind the vanity to counterbalance its angular fixtures and to build on the high-end ambiance she developed with a gold sconce and faucets. This moment is eminently achievable with a super-durable vinyl lookalike material, but the real thing doesn’t have to be a headache, either. If you have your heart set on grass cloth in a space that will be exposed to moisture, be sure your room is well-ventilated and hire a pro for installation.

In the Bathroom: Layered Design
A functional space like this is an excellent candidate for well-chosen accessories. Christina elevated this stone-topped vanity with luxe towels and soap dispensers, then went above and beyond with a pair of agate slices, an amber glass votive, a carved vase and a wall-mounted planter with a trailing philodendron. Could powder rooms be the new curio cabinets? We’re listening.

In the Bathroom: Max Out on Minerals
Christina chose luxuriously chunky slabs of stone for the vanities in this bathroom suite. Dimensions like these allow for appreciation of their horizontal and vertical surfaces. As every California designer knows, natural elements should always be the stars of the show.
