'Botched Homes' With Star Contractor Charlie Kawas Comes to HGTV
Disastrous home renovations get a second chance in the new HGTV series Botched Homes. Here's everything you need to know.
General contractor and master craftsman Charlie Kawas will rescue South Florida homeowners from some of the region's most disastrous renovation projects in the new HGTV series Botched Homes. Known for tackling the area's toughest construction projects, Charlie brings decades of hands-on experience and New York City grit to every renovation. The new series premieres Wednesday, September 2 at 10|9c.
What Is Botched Homes About?
Driven by a passion for helping families reclaim homes that have become unsafe, unlivable or left unfinished, Charlie takes on one renovation disaster after another. Alongside his five-star crew and designer Courtney Ibars, he transforms homes plagued by shoddy workmanship, dangerous conditions and dysfunctional layouts into safe and beautiful spaces.
"Every home tells a story, and unfortunately many of these families were left with unfinished projects, unsafe conditions and broken trust after hiring the wrong contractor," says Charlie. "Our job is to restore more than just the house. We want to give homeowners peace of mind by doing the work the right way and creating a home they can finally feel proud of.”
In the premiere episode, Charlie and his team overhaul a DIY kitchen with no running hot water, exposed electrical wiring held together by a stuffed snake and other bizarre designs. Later, Charlie and Courtney transform a hazardous black-and-white checkerboard bathroom with no mirrors or storage. Throughout the season, the team will work on a mold-infested home with no front door and overrun by rats, a fishhook-shaped bathroom and a bedroom frozen in the 1980s.
