Karen has made entering HGTV giveaways part of her daily routine for years, entering twice daily every day of the sweepstakes period — and her diligence paid off! She was randomly selected from more than 75 million entries as the winner of the $1.3 million grand prize.

When the email arrived notifying her that she was the lucky winner, she initially suspected it was a scam and enlisted her son's help to verify the message was legitimate. Even after receiving confirmation, the reality of winning HGTV Smart Home 2026 took time to sink in.

A Dream Prize Close to Home

At 77, Karen is a retired high school substitute teacher who lives with her husband of 55 years, Bill, in Jacksonville, Florida — just two hours from HGTV Smart Home 2026 in Orlando, making it an especially meaningful prize for the Florida couple.

Karen and Bill have two children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and enjoy spending quality time with family whenever possible. Karen loves quilting, gardening and helping Bill refurbish furniture, putting the finishing touches on their creations by staining and painting them.
