The Best Cure for a Hangover? 5 Wacky Remedies Celebrities Swear By

Find out how glamorous party animals are combatting their post-New Year's Eve funk.

Operating by the logic that because celebrities go to more parties and have more fun than mere mortals, I decided to round up a collection of hangover remedies from the rich and famous to prepare myself for the deluge to come.

Expecting to tie one on and wear the proverbial lampshade this New Year’s Eve? We’ve rounded up some of the untested, but interesting, concoctions and home remedies that may help you through the aching head and queasy tummy to come. You’re welcome.

Sugar, pork and grease are common hangover remedies, so a bacon topped hamburger sandwiched between donuts makes a certain kind of perverse sense.

A Soak

Both Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana swear by soaking in an Epsom salt-laced hot bath (Saldana does her soaking before going to bed). Paltrow likes to intersperse bracing one minute showers in icy water before returning to her warm soak and recommends big city folk head to their nearest Korean spa or Turkish hammam for a soak and splash. James Bond hunk Daniel Craig also heads to the sauna to sweat out his alcohol-induced toxins.

Hair of the Dog

Liv Tyler recommends a reboot of the liquor that slayed you the night before. And a big breakfast. Cameron Diaz is of the same breakfast-meets-hair-of-the-dog school, preferring a beer and an Egg McMuffin. Clearly a purist, Pink just sticks with a beer post-revelry. Julia Roberts goes for a fancier nip, alternating between champagne and carrot juice the morning after a night of partying.

Magical Food

Everyone has their favorite post-drinking edible hangover cure: a sugary Coke, strawberry or chocolate milkshakes, coffee or tea and lots of water are oft-cited hangover remedies, along with super spicy Mexican food and greasy burgers. Celebs differ on whether a healthy repast or a grease-bomb is the ticket to pain-free recuperation.

Kate Hudson recommends a very West Coast post-inebriation banquet of tomato juice, fresh fruit, avocado and lots of vitamins while Nigella Lawson prefers a “prairie oyster” of egg yolk, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and brandy swallowed in one gulp. An heiress with very of-the-people tastes, Paris Hilton's post-shindig binge is a Quarter Pounder with cheese and fries.

Eggs and Pig

Some combination of eggs and bacon or eggs and pork belly or eggs and ham or eggs and sausage comes up often enough to make us think these celebrities are onto something.

Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson prefers ramen soup loaded with pork fat or pork belly and capped with a poached egg while Australian pop star Kylie Minogue sticks with basic egg sandwiches and Jamie Oliver likes a double portion of eggs and bacon. Renee Zellweger recovers with a full-on English breakfast and beans on toast and Kate Winslet told Australia’s Herald-Sun that her post-inebriation meal of choice "a sausage and bacon sandwich usually does it for me. I also have a big glass of orange juice and a cup of sugary tea. The combination of vitamins and sugar perks me up."

For the truly strong of constitution, a good sweat and some physical exertion gets the lead out. The Big Short star Christian Bale likes to go running after a night of drinking and flapper-era party animal Zelda Fitzgerald preferred a morning swim to relieve the aches and pangs of bathtub gin and doing the Charleston 'til dawn.
