Surprisingly High-End-Looking Home Finds at Walmart, According to Interior Designers
Want to elevate your space on a budget? We asked professional interior designers to weigh in on what furniture and accessories they'd recommend buying from Walmart.
Decorating a home is one of life’s great pleasures. It’s also one of life’s great expenses. But it doesn’t have to be! If you’re designing your space on a budget, Walmart has more than a few stylish home finds to elevate its appearance without draining your bank account. The retailer has really stepped up its furniture and decor offerings in the last few years with home collections like Ree Drummond's The Pioneer Woman line, Drew Barrymore's Beautiful by Drew line and Erin Vogelpohl's My Texas House line, to name a few.
To save you from scouring the dozens of home search pages on the site, we chatted with a few interior designers to get their curated picks of the most stylish home finds at Walmart — all of which look more expensive than they are. Check them out below.
What We're Shopping From the My Texas House Home Line at Walmart
The latest collection offers elevated modern farmhouse furniture and decor for any space.
The Pioneer Woman Harper Spindle Accent Chair looks like something out of The White Lotus — or at the very least, like something you might find in the Ratliffs' home. “This chair is absolutely gorgeous with so much detail,” says interior designer and home staging expert Cathy Hobbs, who is the author of Home Design Recipes. “From its turned legs to the attention to detail, such as an upholstered seat with piping detail and fabric pads on chair arms, this chair oozes luxury.”
An easy way to make your home look more stylish? With a console table drop zone by your front door. “Consoles are the perfect way to make a living room or entry point statement, and this console doesn’t disappoint,” Hobbs says. “Its interesting shape and design speak quality, as does its warm wood color, which is on trend.”
If you enjoy earthy, California-mod home design, the Beautiful Mod Round Coffee Table might strike a cord. “Thick and chunky is in and thin and delicate is out,” Hobbs reveals. “From side tables to dining tables and coffee tables, thick, chunky legs are on trend, and this coffee table, with its round, sturdy design, speaks both quality and versatility.”
Need a little extra storage in your space but want it to look chic and tucked away? Hobbs says to consider the Better Homes & Gardens Springwood Caning Sideboard. “Wood is more popular than ever, as are woven pieces such as wicker, ratan and caning,” she says. “This sideboard, on its own, has a beautiful design in a gorgeous color wood, but the woven inserts are like icing on a cake, simply perfect."
Walmart has stunning beds to choose from, too. Of the many the retailer offers, Hobbs is particularly smitten with the Baxton Studio Sennae Midcentury Modern Upholstered Platform Bed. “Midcentury modern pieces are truly timeless, and this bed looks like it was handcrafted by a custom millworker,” she explains. “Details such as the location and shape of the bed legs and its upholstered headboard help to make this bed truly special.”
Who knew Walmart was home to some seriously gorgeous sectionals? “This modular sofa is a great example of a high-end looking sofa for a much better budget-friendly price,” says Danielle Low, Owner & Chief Designer at Liberty Cove Interiors in Bonita Springs, Florida. “The frame is made of solid wood with separate springs, which, as a designer, tells me that the quality of the sofa is of a better quality. The clean lines of this sofa also make it look expensive.”
Low is also a fan of the cushions. “The size of the seat cushions are larger than 30 inches wide, which provides a great clearance of space for any sized client,” she points out. “A lot of the time, clients do not think to look at the scale of items and the size of a seat, especially on a sofa, is extremely important. The last thing you want is to purchase a sofa and have to always sit right up when relaxed because there is not enough space to relax your body. It [also] has thick back cushions, which is important [since] if you have thin ones, over time, the comfort on your sofa will no longer exist.” Lastly, Low commends the fabric of this sectional. “The fabric is a woven linen, which is an expensive texture,” she says.
Walmart has lovely floor coverings, too, it turns out. “Rugs are a great way of adding texture and depth to any space,” Low says, noting that this SIXHOME option is a great choice with a budget-friendly price tag. “If the right rug is used in a space, it will center the room and give the main piece of furniture in the room the center of attention while bringing all other items, fabrics and textures in the room together.”
What she likes about this rug, in particular, is its color variation and visual flow. “The pile on this rug is not as thick as I would like it to be, but the pattern on the rug takes your eye across the piece rather than the thickness,” she adds. “The rug is non-shedding, as well, which is very important — the last thing a designer wants is a rug that sheds daily and needs to be vacuumed.”
Fluted coffee tables look undeniably luxe. “This midcentury coffee table in walnut brings so much warmth to any living room,” Low says. “The reeding along the sliding tambour door screams expensive, and the notched-out handle is seamless and clean while allowing the functionality of the mechanism.” Low says this Walmart coffee table find is also the perfect size. “At a width of 39 inches, this coffee table is a fair size to be paired with any midcentury sofa,” she points out.
A well-styled home requires artfully decorated walls. “The wood-grained frame used [in this triptych] is of great quality and looks expensive,” Low says. “The canvas has the texture that high-end art has, and the landscape abstract is just enough color to add variation to any wall.”
Looking for a stylish place to display your favorite coffee table books and kick up your feet? Ishita Interiors Principal Designer Ishita Lalan can’t get enough of the Beautiful Contempo Round Coffee Table. “This coffee table has an upscale black faux speckled marble finish that mimics the look and feel of expensive marble,” she says. “Its sturdy, three-leg design not only adds style but also supports a high weight capacity, making it durable and functional.”
Low isn’t the only designer to take note of Walmart’s stellar stylish seating offering. “I love the curved silhouette of this chair, and its 360-degree swivel adds extra functionality,” Lalan says. “At a budget-friendly price point, the velvet upholstery in rich colors gives it a luxurious feel.”
Whether you collect novels, china or trinkets, the Juliet Kitchen Rounded Arch Cabinet, which has a similar look to the viral Anthropologie Fern Storage Cabinet, is worth making room for in your home. “This arched bookcase will bring a sophisticated look to any space,” Lalan says. “Despite its budget-friendly price tag, it looks and feels much more expensive.”
Stylish seating for less than $300? Sign us up! “While this accent chair is not very wide in size, the wood trim adds elegance and luxury to this piece,” Low says, noting that the thick cushions do, as well. “The 360-degree swivel provides the chair more movement and creates a great option for additional seating in living rooms or spaces in between living and dining, as the chair can rotate to each space.”
