Homemade advent calendars are a fun way for families to countdown to Christmas, but sometimes we get so busy that we forget to do the things that make the holidays enjoyable. With this craft, you can be as creative or quirky as you like without spending a lot of money. Fill your advent calendar with personal items and festive tasks to ensure you and your family make merry this season. It’s okay to reuse items like chocolate coins, love notes and Polaroids. The more charm, the better!

Materials

  • artificial grass
  • wire wreath form
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun and sticks
  • stickers
  • paper and pencil
  • trinkets
  • gift bags
  • toppers
  • tape

Attach Artificial Grass

Trace wire wreath form on paper to make a stencil, and cut out (Image 1). Use that template to cut the artificial grass to size (Image 2), and attach to wire form with a hot glue gun (Images 3 and 4).

Assemble

Select a variety of miniature gift bags and boxes to fill with surprises (Image 1). Wrap each trinket individually, and mark each with a number to keep track of the days. Hot glue trim and toppers on boxes for added flair and pomp (Image 2).

Add Gifts

Attach each gift from largest to smallest in desired position (number side up) using a clothespin (Images 1 and 2). Hang and enjoy!
