Hem Edges
Fold the edge of the rug over 4 inches, leaving a "rod pocket" for the dowel. Fuse the rug together with no-sew hem tape and an iron. Repeat on the other side.

Cut Out Handle
To create a space for your hand to grab the dowel, remove a rectangle of the "rod pocket" at the center using scissors. Repeat on the other side.

Cut Dowel for Handle
Using a small hack saw, cut the dowel down to 6 inches wider than your rug. Repeat so you have a dowel for each side of the tote.

Slide Dowel Into Pocket
Slide the pre-cut dowels into each "pocket". Keep your new tote handy for times when the fire calls for fresh firewood.
