HGTV Obsessed Episode 32: Rajiv Surendra
Actor and artist Rajiv Surendra joins Marianne to talk about why we should wear our good clothes and use our fine china every single day. Then, Jason Pickens, HGTV.com talent talks about how growing up in a furniture-making family taught him to appreciate slow craftsmanship.
You may know him as Kevin from the movie Mean Girls, but Rajiv Surendra is also a calligrapher, chalk artist, potter, antique collector and so much more. He and Marianne chat about the importance of trying new artistries, the difference between talent and skill and what being a master of a craft really means.
Rajiv talks about his antique collection and handmade treasures and how he uses them daily and doesn’t wait for special occasions. He goes on to share his philosophy of living with purpose and intention in our fast-paced, digital world and not waiting to use precious items like your fine china and good clothes. “The reason why a lot of these things [antiques] that I have are in perfect condition is because they were too good for someone to use every day,” explains Rajiv. "I’m not saving anything! I’m wearing my nicest clothes on a regular basis, even on an average Wednesday just going to the hardware store.”
