Discovering the gender of your baby should be one of the most treasured moments of your life. The last thing you want to do is end up on one of those gender-reveal-fail compilation videos…yikes. Luckily, we’ve concocted the perfect fail-proof list of DIY gender reveal ideas just for you.

Big Box of Balloons

You may have seen something like this before. The story goes, one of the parents-to-be tugs on the box and, instead of the balloons coming out, the whole box comes down right on their heads. However, this is the fail-proof option! All you need to do is get a big box, close it off on the bottom and place a wire hanger through the gap in the center. This side will stay un-taped to allow for the freeing-of-the-balloons to happen later on. Once the hanger is in place, fill the box with all shades of pink or blue balloons. Once packed full, place a second hanger in and close the top. This side should be thoroughly taped shut to prevent the box from falling on any heads. Complete the look by covering the exterior of the box with pink and blue polka dot stickers, hanging from a porch or tree branch and tying strings to the lower hanger. All that's left is to be showered with a sweet suprise!

Go Crazy With Crazy String

This one is super simple! Just buy a few cans of pink or blue crazy string and cover each can with pink and blue paper to hide the actual color. When it’s time, have your guests go wild and spray the happy couple with the crazy string to reveal the hidden hue.

The Power of Powder

The possibilities are endless with this homemade colored powder. You can put it in a balloon and hit it with a bat or simply have the couple toss it joyfully in the air or directly at each other! To make it, mix 1 cup of corn starch with a small amount of red or blue food color gel and 3/4 cup of water. Mix it all up (you're going to want gloves!) and allow to dry for 24 hours. Once dry, grind it using a coffee grinder, and the rest is up to you!

The Hidden Sprinkle Cake

For this DIY, bake or buy your favorite round cake. Use a small can (a tomato paste can works perfectly) to remove the center section of the cake and fill the void with pink or blue sprinkles. Use the top portion of the piece you removed to cover the void and ice the cake as normal. Cover the top with pink and blue sprinkles to add to the mystery and have the couple cut into the cake and reveal the hidden sprinkles inside.

Balloons, Paint and Darts…Oh My!

This last idea is fun for everyone. Fill several black balloons with gold paint and one balloon with pink or blue paint. Staple each balloon by the tail to a board and have the couple throw darts at the balloons until the secret-holding balloon is popped. Just don't stand too close!
