When Adam, a self-described “airline geek,” told his friends and family that he was buying an airplane that he planned to renovate into a private residence, they didn’t even bat an eye. “I don’t think anyone was overly surprised when I said I was buying an airplane because it was really just the next evolution of ‘Adam’s obsession with aviation,’” he says. Obsession might be an understatement in this case.

Nothing to see here, folks, please return to your seats. It’s just an actual airplane in the foyer of a house.

“Is this real?” host Jack McBrayer asks as he walks into the house and sees the front of an airplane situated where one would usually expect to see a sofa. “How did this get here?” he gasps, clearly flabbergasted.

After paying $30,000 for the Boeing 727 jet airliner, Adam had the plane cut into sections and trucked from California to Texas. After completing its more than 1,000-mile journey to Terlingua, Texas, Adam had the plane craned onto the 80-acre site where the custom-built house now surrounds it. The entire residence features three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the third level, which is situated more like a conventional house, and additional sleeping space inside the converted cargo hold. The over 3,000-square-foot house is now on the market for just a little more than $2 million. “It is very bittersweet to list it for sale, but I work eight hours away, and its just difficult to be able to pay attention and to enjoy it like I’d like to,” Adam explains.

“This is where the baggage would have been stored on a flight,” Adam shows Jack as they tour the renovated cargo hold, which now features two built-in beds.

The renovated cargo area is what you call cozy in real estate listings, but it still manages to fit sleeping space for two.

“So, you are into planes?” grins Captain Obvious (aka Jack).

Adam explains that his love of aviation started as a kid when he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, and “all day I got to watch airplanes come in side by side so gracefully and from that moment forward I loved it and I knew that was the industry I wanted to work in.” True to his childhood dreams, Adam works in airline operations and also holds a private pilot’s license.

The house isn’t just cool to look at; it also includes some incredible bells and whistles, including a fully operational flight simulator. “Adam loves planes so much that he put a flight simulator inside the plane that’s inside his house. We’re talking the turducken of aviation here,” Jack says.

Up a flight of stairs, Adam shows Jack the main deck. “This is crazy,” Jack says of the hull-shaped living space that features a row of authentic airplane seats. “Ginger ale, no ice,” Jack jokingly requests as he settles himself into a seat.

Adjacent to this living space is the “OG cockpit,” as Jack calls it. “Do you ever pretend like you’re a pilot?”

“All the time,” Adam tells him.

Moments later, Jack spots a pair of aviator sunglasses, puts them on and we’re suddenly inside a Top Gun-esque montage complete with a funky '80s-style guitar track. After simulating an air-attack and confirming that he is “not cut out to be a pilot," Jack confirms, "I’m a very good passenger. Put me in first class, I’m good to go.” Jack is ready to see the rest of the house.

The third level is laid out like a traditional home with a kitchen, a living room (with actual sofas), three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an incredible, unobstructed view of the vast land that surrounds the house. “Can you imagine what this looks like with the stars at night? It is absolutely fantastic,” Adam tells Jack.

At the time of writing, this one-of-a-kind home had not yet found its buyer, so if you happen to be looking for a house that really sells that “it’s about the journey, not the destination” kind of feeling, this one could be all yours.
