Obsessed With 'Heated Rivalry'? Check Out the Real Homes From the Show

It's easy to get pulled into the world of Heated Rivalry, a new hit drama that follows the secret romance of rival hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov (streaming now on HBO Max and Crave Canada). The show's will-they-won't-they romance, the Russian monologue and hockey action have become something of a cultural phenomenon. But it's not just Shane and Ilya's love story or what takes place on the ice that has fans talking — it's the amazing locations used as the characters' homes.

Step Inside Heated Rivalry's Coolest Homes

Shane Hollander's Apartment

Shane is a successful professional hockey player, and his modern, high-end apartment reflects this in scenes that showcase his kitchen, living room and bedroom. But the wonders of movie (or in this case streaming show) magic fooled us all. It turns out the space isn't a high-rise apartment in Montreal at all. It's a house in Hamilton, Ontario that homeowner, makeup artist Monika Rejnowicz, rented to the show's producers.

"Believe it or not, it really just started with a knock on our door," says Monika. "We weren't really looking for it, but it found us. It's been amazing." This isn't the first time Monika's home has been used in productions. "I love our home and I love, love stories, so my rule has always been very simple: We open up our home to film love stories. When Heated Rivalry came, we didn't know too much about it but we knew it was a love story and I was like, 'Perfect, come on in!'"

The house, designed by SMPL Design Studio, has a modern and clean aesthetic that resonated with the producers. They ended up keeping Monika's furniture in the house while filming.

And, how did they make a single-family home feel like a high-rise apartment? Cinematographer Valentia Vee took fans behind the scenes on Instagram and explained how the show's camera operator, James Poremba, shot with a green screen behind the windows so a virtual cityscape could be added via CGI later.

Shane's Cottage

Ever since episode five dropped, “We’re all going to the cottage” has been echoing across social media — and Heated Rivalry fans know why. The setting for the sixth and final episode of the season is a lakeside cottage that looks more like a luxury mansion than a cozy getaway. Designed by Toronto-based architect Trevor McIvor, the Barlochan Cottage is located on Lake Muskoka in Ontario.

Ilya Rozanov's House

In the show, Ilyan Rozanov is an MVP-award-winning player for a fictional Boston hockey team. His house, supposedly in the Boston area, reflects the level of grandeur one might expect from a professional athlete. The actual home is located in Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. Recently listed for more than $4.7 million, the recognizable kitchen, living room and bedroom are just some of the spectacular spaces in this 8,000-sqare-foot home on five acres designed by SMPLE Design Studio.

Scott Hunter's Penthouse Apartment

Episode three focuses on Scott Hunter, a professional hockey player for the fictional New York Admirals, and Kip, a smoothie maker in Manhattan. A large part of their storyline takes place in Scott's luxury apartment that is said to be set in New York. The real-life location for the space is the Presidential Suite at the Park Hyatt in Toronto.
