This week we’re talking about house flipping with Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young. Tarek is the host of HGTV’s Flipping 101 and Heather is on the Netflix show, Selling Sunset. Partners in life and in business, Tarek and Heather join Marianne to talk about house-flipping, real estate staging and what key people you need in your corner when flipping a house.

On Tarek’s show — Flipping 101 — he shows novice investors/renovators how they can turn a profit flipping houses. Marianne asks him about the common mistakes he sees when mentoring these rookie flippers. Tarek says, “The biggest mistake people make is that they get too excited and they are desperate for a flip, they end up paying too much for the house. And if you pay too much for the house, in the end, you’re not going to make much money.” Tarek shares the key people you need on your team when flipping a house — a local general contractor (and he emphasizes "local," someone who knows the area), a reliable lender and a good real estate agent.

In season 2 of Flipping 101, Tarek and Heather show us their new beach house and share the trials and tribulations they’ve had renovating it — including a flood. The couple planned on getting married last year but changed the date due to Covid. But the nuptial plans are well underway. Heather’s friends recently gave her a bridal shower and she shares some of her favorite gifts — but she won’t share any details when it comes to the style of her wedding dress, because she wants Tarek to be surprised.
