This Hot-Pink Rental Renovation Is a Bachelorette Party's Dream

In HGTV's new renovation show Roast My Rental, comedian and design enthusiast Leslie Jones tours the country’s worst short-term rentals, then attempts to flip them in 72 hours alongside Help! I Wrecked My House host and designer Jasmine Roth. Enter Kaity and Zach Stiegler. They needed help preventing foreclosure on their vacation rental property in Long Beach, California. Luckily, Jasmine and Leslie stepped in — ready to complete a renovation in just three days. Kaity was pregnant with her and Zach's first child at the time. The couple had purchased the property to increase their income and give their son a stable future. The problem? Everything in the house was exactly as it was the day they got the keys — including slippery front steps, a ratty area rug and a decorative mannequin (with broken fingers?) left inside. Jasmine wanted to keep the home's personality, but give it a "razzle dazzle" theme to attract bachelorette parties and groups looking for fun and functionality.

The original stairs featured a patterned tile that made Leslie dizzy — plus the lack of traction was a liability. (A guest had broken their ankle from a fall here!) Jasmine vowed to make the stairs safe on a budget. She power-washed the tile and laid a thin brick on top. Now, the classic feature is a safe and sturdy first impression that cost $3,000 to install.

Jasmine hid the home's television behind a floral curtain adjacent to the front door, which doubles as a spot to take selfies as soon as guests arrive. Leslie also encouraged Jasmine to turn an existing life-size doll box into a photo booth, which sits between the living room and kitchen.

In a three-day transformation, every minute matters. That's why Jasmine kept the existing gold accent behind the television, which complemented the fun, floral curtain.

The rental was on its way to becoming a bachelorette hub; it just needed some functionality. Jasmine displayed sleek glassware on aesthetic shelving. Now, it's easy for visitors to cheer to their vacation (using pink glasses that are entirely on theme).

The existing kitchen had an inviting island, a washer and dryer, and ample storage. Jasmine didn't have to do much in this room; she just needed to make sure guests would stick around upon entering the rental.

Jasmine kept much of the kitchen layout the same, with one important shift. The original kitchen had a storage bench under the windows that wasn't intended for seating but was being used as such (a safety hazard indeed!). She built ottomans for the spot instead, doubling the number of people who could gather in the kitchen. Even better: The ottomans form a bed in the banquette when needed.

The original main bedroom had a broken mattress and silk sheets, and Leslie declared she would not be able to sleep there. The room needed to feel calming — and could benefit from new essentials.

Jasmine gave this bedroom a makeover that didn't lose its glam. By painting the wall a soft pink and adding a floral bedspread, the aesthetic feels more like a high-end getaway. In all, this change cost $1,100 and will make guests feel more comfortable.

Since this vacation house is intended for bachelorette parties, the bedroom has a small sitting area that's perfect for putting on shoes right before hitting the town.

The owners bought the property and didn't change anything about it, including its over-the-top patterns and colors. Jasmine aimed to keep the property's sense of fun, but had to make the bedrooms more relaxing.

Jasmine kept the pink palette but shifted the ambiance from overly glam to whimsical, allowing visitors the chance to get a good night's sleep.

The existing furniture looked dirty and worn from previous guests, including a red shag rug with numerous holes in it. The owners wanted the design to look glamorous, but these details were leading to poor reviews.

The new paint color and patterned sofa are confident choices, but they're balanced by a neutral rug and new blinds. The curtains between the sofa and banquette can be closed for privacy.

The existing dining area had flimsy seating that Leslie thought was a disaster waiting to happen. So, Jasmine updated the area with a built-in banquette strong enough to sleep on. The cute cafe curtains add privacy and shade to the nook, too.

The existing color palette was excessive, and Jasmine aimed to add "razzle dazzle" without overdoing it. While her design is memorable, its more calming appearance encourages guests to unwind.
