After a year of dating, Tarek El Moussa had made up his mind: he would ask Heather Rae Young for her hand in marriage. With the help of his assistant Alicia, Tarek planned the dreamiest proposal on Catalina Island. HGTV fans will get to watch Tarek pull off the perfect proposal during the season finale of Flipping 101 which airs Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9|8c. In honor of the episode, Tarek and Heather shared their engagement photos with us and we can’t stop drooling over them!

Cheers to One Year

With their one-year anniversary to celebrate, Tarek figured he could easily surprise Heather with an engagement. After all, they already had plans to travel to Catalina Island — a sentimental place to both Tarek and Heather. “I really want the proposal to be a surprise, so I’m using our one-year anniversary as a decoy so hopefully she won’t expect anything,” said Tarek during filming.

A Weekend of Events

Besides the proposal, Tarek surprised Heather all weekend long with an off-roading adventure and private spa day. He did his best to play it cool and calm, but on the inside he was a nervous mess. Although he regained some confidence right before the proposal, he revealed that once Heather made her way towards him, the nerves kicked in.

A Surprise Proposal

Hours before the proposal, Tarek brought in Heather's stylist and makeup artist to get her ready for what she thought was just a fancy dinner. When she made her way to the beach, she found a candle-lit, rose petal path with a tuxedo-clad Tarek waiting for her at the end of it. “I was confused for the first 15 seconds as I walked down the gorgeous candle & flower aisle wondering what the heck is going on. Then I thought OMG is he proposing???,” Heather later shared on Instagram.

She Said Yes!

After reading aloud a sweet card Heather wrote him from early in their relationship, Tarek added some sweet words of his own before getting down on one knee: “On July 3rd, I was a broken, lost, sad man. On July 4th, you stepped onto my boat. I saw you, my heart stopped. And I fell in love with you right away.” Once Heather gave a resounding yes, the couple embraced as onlooking boats honked their horns in celebration.

The Ring

As for the jaw-dropping ring, Tarek was initially torn between an eight-carat and ten-carat emerald-cut diamond. With the help of his sister Angelique and his trusted jeweler and friend Benny, Tarek opted for the more-sparkly 8-carat. “The diamond is perfect all the way around, just like Heather," Tarek told PEOPLE. "I also picked this ring because 8 is a lucky number.”

Dinner for Two

Although the proposal was the main event, Tarek still had a few more surprises for Heather up his sleeve, including a private dinner inside a cabana overlooking the ocean. Once seated for dinner, the newly engaged couple gave Tarek’s daughter Taylor a call to share the exciting news.

Bon Appétit

According to PEOPLE, the custom four-course meal included special vegan options for Heather including “heart of palm cake, heirloom tomato salad and confit eggplant medallion.” Dinner was served alongside a gorgeous floral arrangement made up of Heather’s favorite flowers.

The Future Mrs.

Shades of red and pink flowers — Heather’s favorite colors — surrounded another fun element Tarek incorporated into the special evening: a custom neon sign that read, “The Future Mrs. El Moussa.”

Some Enchanted Evening

“It was a gorgeous night once the sun went down,” said Tarek on Instagram. “Moonlight was hitting the water, the candles were flickering, and...3 full size deer showed up and started eating the flowers.”

Future Plans

Several months after their engagement, Tarek and Heather are busy making plans for the wedding. Heather recently shared on Instagram that they’re between California or Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, as far as location goes.

No matter where they choose, it’s safe to say that based on the proposal, the wedding is bound to be just as stunning. Congratulations again to Tarek and Heather!
