Storage Baskets in a Closet

Clear out a catchall space used for junk to designate a closet for organize linens.

Most people have a closet that's designated for linens, but many use it as a catchall space for all their junk instead. If you don't want to use up a closet just for linens, use an armoire instead.

To begin, empty out the space completely. Once it's empty, sweep, dust or wipe down the shelving and spray the space with a natural linen mist. This gives a blank canvas to create a functional linen closet.

Once everything is removed and clean, begin sorting and purging. If you don't purge, in no time your closet will look the same as it did before. Use four baskets when sorting: keep, donate, trash and move. Only keep what you intend to use. Do you need four sets of sheets for each bed? Do you need 15 pillowcases? Commit to purging unused clutter.

When organizing, use baskets to categorize and place your items. Label and pin tags to them according to your personal needs. To keep things more organized, designate a basket for each family member and place their sheets, pillowcases and towels in them. If your family shares bedding, label by size.

Line up your baskets and place like items together. Once you are finished separating and organizing, place your baskets in the closet. If you won't be using baskets, line up your sets of linens with like items together on labeled shelving.

Spray the linens once again. The key to keeping your linen closet organized is maintenance. Straighten on a daily basis, and always place freshly laundered items back into the correct basket or space.
