How to Make Pie-in-a-Jar Party Favors

Materials Needed:
- small Mason jars
- 5" circular pastry cutter
- 3" circular pastry cutter
- small heart-shaped cutter (can be purchased at any craft store)
- pie crust pastry, chilled (homemade or store-bought)
- homemade or store-bought pie filling (we used apple)
- tan card stock
- scissors
- white gel pen
- 1/4"-wide satin ribbon
Cut Pie Crust
Clear workspace and roll out pastry dough (Image 1). Using larger circular crust cutter, cut 5-inch circle out of pastry (Image 2).

Fill Jars
Carefully place crust in glass jar; use your fingers to press dough against jar's walls (Image 1). Spoon pie filling into dough-lined jar (Image 2).

Cut Pie Top
On new sheet of pastry, use 3-inch circular pastry cutter to cut out top crust (Image 1). Tip: Use cutter with crimped edges for added decorative detail. Use a heart-shaped cutter to punch an air hole in the top crust circle (Image 2).

Seal Then Bake
Place crust on top of filled jar. Use fingers or fork to tightly pinch edges of top crust to bottom crust to seal (Image 1). Bake pie for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees F (Image 2). Remove pie from oven and set aside to cool (Image 3).

Create Lid and Embellish
While pie is baking, trace circumference of Mason jar top onto card stock and cut out (Images 1 and 2). Write holiday wishes on card-stock circle. Once pie cools, place circle on Mason jar top and twist outer ring onto jar top to secure (Image 3). Finally, tie a ribbon around each favor before distributing to guests (Image 4).
