Joanna’s design incorporates a stylized take on an old-fashioned Murphy bed, allowing the space to be used as sleeping quarters when guests are visiting. The bed folds up and out-of-sight when the room is being used as a kids’ space.

"When you're working with smaller spaces like this office," says Joanna, "I think it's really important that you incorporate pieces that tell a story and give the space interest. I think it's important that, the smaller the space, the more character that you implement so that it really feels special."

So the homeowners can work from home, Joanna picked out a beautifully rustic desk and chair, paired with a suede couch that is professional enough for a business meeting, but comfortable enough for an impromptu concert.

A chalkboard backsplash will come in handy for taking notes and brick floors were installed for a durable yet attractive look.

Fixed Up Nursery

Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines transformed a depressing room into a bright and festive nursery for the Purks' baby on the way. The old French Doors were removed to create a solid wall for a crib or bed placed against. The old wall paneling was removed and replaced with light blue painted drywall with white trim. Soft carpeting will be perfect for a child's room and metal crates hang on the wall and serve as storage for stuffed animals. A comfortable side chair is an inviting place to sit with the baby, and a crystal chandelier was removed from the original dining room and installed here in the nursery.

The Blount's new living room is serene with a light gray-green paint, a new built-in, and distressed wood floors.

The updated office feels brighter with a lighter paint, soft window dressing, and dark wood floors that flow through french doors into the family room.
