It's hard to imagine a time when the PSL — that sweet, sweet harbinger of fall — wasn't on the forefront of our minds (and lips) each and every autumn. But just 15 years ago this past spring, the pumpkin spice latte — almost named the 'Fall Harvest Latte' (oh the horror!) — was just a germ of an idea incubating at Starbucks' Liquid Lab in Seattle, set to hit test markets later that fall. The rest is history.

Since then, Starbucks has sold more than 200 million PSLs, turning a few basic ingredients into a cultural phenomenon. In addition to the barrage of PSL-scented candles and bath products overtaking store shelves each August, you can now buy pumpkin spice cereals, sweets and even potato chips. And to be honest, we're not mad about it.
