Whether you're looking for a creative costume your friends will adore, or you have to throw together a last-minute costume with just a few simple materials, these clever ideas take the laundry basket from household chore to center stage.

Cute Loops

Begin by cutting the small end off of a laundry basket with a utility knife. Next, use a serrated kitchen knife to cut half-inch rings out of assorted colors of pool noodles. On a foam board, trace the inside of the large end of the laundry basket, and use a utility knife to cut it out. Use the small piece, previously cut off the bottom of the basket, to trace a smaller inner circle within the foam circle, and cut to create a donut shape. Using hot glue, randomly stack the pool noodle rings on the foam circle, and place on the large side of the laundry basket. It should fit snug. Create suspenders out of ribbons, and your little one is ready for a full night of trick-or-treating.

Roses Are Red…

Using a utility knife, cut the bottom off of a laundry basket, and paint the laundry basket pink (or another color of your choice). Choose a ribbon that matches the color of the basket and has a thickness that matches the width of the holes in the laundry basket. Weave the ribbon through the holes. Use packing tape to attach faux florals around the rim of the large side of the basket, and attach small flowers to a headband with hot glue. Pull this look together with matching ribbon suspenders, and get ready to brighten the night. Bonus points if you remember your watering can!

Three-Point Costume

Tip-off this costume by using scissors to cut the bottom off of a laundry basket, leaving the jagged pieces hanging to resemble a net. Next, line the top of the basket with orange tape for the perfect rim. With a utility knife, cut a basketball down the middle seam, and set one half aside. To create the backboard, tape a three-sided red rectangle at the bottom of a foam board, and hot glue one half of the basketball inside the rectangle with the inside facing downward. Place the basketball and backboard on your head, and drape the rim around your neck using a piece of string. Now you’re ready to take your game to the streets!
