A Condo Renovation Fit For the Beach
Jasmine Roth, designer and host of Help! I Wrecked my House is never afraid to tear it down. When an apartment right up the street from her house went up for sale, she seized the opportunity and bought it as a surprise for her mom. Together, the mother-daughter duo came up with a plan to renovate and transform the space. The theme? Sophisticated surf. Living Room, Before
The condo's layout boasts a shared dining-living area, so Jasmine planned to keep the space as open as possible by maximizing storage. But, first, her and the team got to work tearing everything down. “No more popcorn ceilings!” she said.
Living Room, After
Jasmine used various neutral colors, textures and layers to make the living room cozy, unique and personal to her mom. For a more extravagant feel, she and her team installed luxury vinyl plank floors. The cube leather pouf and knitted ottoman complement a round brass coffee table in the center of the space. The stunner of the room: a reclaimed, vintage cabinet Jasmine and her mom found — perfect for storing all of her daughter Hazel's toys for playdates with grandma. “Adding a vintage piece to every room [makes] you feel like every room has a story,” says Jasmine.

Dining Area, Before
Jasmine knew her mom would need a dining area fit for entertaining family and friends.
Dining Area, After
By removing existing cabinets above the kitchen sink, Jasmine opened up the dining area. Now, excess light flows between the two spaces.

Bedroom, Before
Jasmine’s ultimate goal for the bedroom was to create a tranquil oasis.
Bedroom, After
As an accent to the room, Jasmine mounted molding onto the bedroom's far wall, then painted it all a lush palm green. To make the space extra-homey, she added personal elements that felt custom: framed family photos, vintage drawers and, since her mom loves to surf, a “Pray For Surf” piece of art. There’s also a surprise in the room. To maximize space, she added a storage bed (a great way to keep the room tidy!).

Bathroom Sink, Before
The bathroom before needed a major makeover to fit the “sophisticated surf” theme.
Bathroom Sink, After
Neutral cream colors on the walls and cabinets create a light and airy feel, while marble slab on the vanity and a wood-framed mirror add extra texture. Delicate brass sink handles bring the entire look home. The coolest part: the marble slab is UV resistant to prevent stains and scratches.
Bathroom Closet, Before
The closet placement in the old bathroom was awkward and impractical.
Bathroom Closet, After
In true space-saving fashion, Jasmine found a way to include a washer, dryer and extra shelving (complete with woven baskets) in the bathroom where a closet used to be.

Shower, Before
Jasmine envisioned turning the bathroom into a spa.
Shower, After
The bathroom wasn't an easy reno. Two tubs broke while en route to the condo. So, it was twice as rewarding to enjoy the final design — tub and all. On the walls, dewy pearl tiles and a brass shower head bring a luxe, beachy ambiance.
Kitchen, Before
“Everything in here has got to go!”Jasmine said when she saw the kitchen.
Kitchen, After
The kitchen is where all the chaos happens, so Jasmine decided to use calming colors and relaxing textures. Neutral tones, gray cabinets, brass finishes and earthy elements speak to the rest of the condo's relaxing aesthetic. Even better: all the appliances — including the dishwasher, fridge and pantry — are hidden behind the cabinets, creating a clean and sleek feel.
Kitchen Sink, Before
Jasmine had a few ideas about how to make over the dated kitchen sink area.
Kitchen Sink, After
Instead of going for a traditional stainless steel sink, Jasmine chose a chic glass one with brass handles.
Closet, Before
These closet doors were old and the brass was close to tarnishing.
Closet, After
Jasmine came up with the idea of installing closets from IKEA for a functional and stylish touch. Now, there’s plenty of space for her mom to store clothes, towels or bedding. The new closet also boasts a small rack shelf for shoes.
Patio, Before
The original patio was nothing special. “If you do it right, patios can feel like you’re adding an entire room to your house,” Jasmine said.
Patio, After
The new patio is the most unique part of the condo. Jasmine’s concept was to, “bring the outside in.” Small details such as click-in wooden tiles, white string lights and a vintage surfboard elevate the patio and give it a modern-earthy beach vibe. And, of course, no patio is complete without some greenery — Jasmine's included.
