Builder, designer and HGTV star, Jasmine Roth, knocks down walls literally and figuratively to totally transform her clients' cookie-cutter houses. The result is a custom home that's not only gorgeous but inherently more valuable. Read on to discover the creative ways she takes suburban spaces from dull to dreamy.

Overhaul the Exterior

Adding custom elements to a home's exterior is a sure-fire way to make it stand out from the rest. Here, Jasmine installed cedar shake siding below, board-and-batten siding above and freshened up the paint on this California home for a look that's totally custom.

Pretty-Up the Entryway

With the addition of pretty planters, fresh house numbers and a cozy seating area, this small front porch went from functional to fabulous.

Don't Forget to Landscape

One of Jasmine’s number one renovation rules? Always leave room for landscaping in the budget. Installed with design in mind, fresh plants, grass and trees kick up the curb appeal, making your home the prettiest on the block.

According to Jasmine, updating or replacing the garage door is the first step to making your home stand out from the rest. But, if a new garage door isn’t in the budget, no worries. Simply remove builder-grade window inserts (they pop right off!) and slap on a fresh coat of paint.

Boring concrete got you down? With a can of paint, a plastic stencil and a few hours of work, you can totally transform the look of a porch, sidewalk or patio with a stylish, stenciled design.

When possible, Jasmine always adds an island to the kitchen. Not only does this custom centerpiece make the kitchen look bigger and double the counter space, but it gives friends and family a special place to gather.

Go Antiquing

“Our goal is to take a house that already was the same as all the other homes and make it special. And a vintage piece or a piece that has a story — that’s a great way to accomplish that,” Jasmine said about this charming antique door she added to a client's pantry.

Don't Shy Away From Color

The hallmark of a cookie-cutter home? All-beige everything. This gorgeous kitchen is updated with colorful cabinetry, customizing it to the clients' eclectic tastes.

Add Style With Tile

Installing a tile backsplash is a relatively inexpensive way to infuse your kitchen or bathroom with value-adding personality. Here, Jasmine chose a beautiful Moroccan-style tile for this custom butler's pantry.

Hide Your Tech

From hiding a television with custom artwork to installing a pop-up power strip in the kitchen countertop, Jasmine always finds creative ways to hide technology, allowing the design to shine.

Open It Up

By knocking down the wall that divided this kitchen from the rest of the home, Jasmine opened up the floor plan, creating the illusion of a larger space.

Invest in New Countertops

Because builder-grade countertops are usually made of poor-quality material, Jasmine almost always replaces them with a hard surface option, like the gorgeous, stain and heat-resistant porcelain pictured here.

Open Shelving Is a Must

Break up endless cabinetry in the kitchen with a wall of open shelving. To pull off this lovely look, Jasmine hand-charred pine boards, sealing the wood without the use of chemicals.

Builder-Grade Doors No More

You can drastically change the look of your home’s interior by replacing or updating builder-grade doors. Here, a door to the homeowners’ new butler’s pantry is painted an eye-catching teal, fitted with beautiful antique hardware and the top door panel is replaced with glass.

Renovate the Fireplace

The centerpiece of the living room, a fireplace can make or break the look of a space. Here, Jasmine replaced an outdated brick surround with stylish, fish-scale tile and topped it with a custom wood mantel that opens to reveal hidden storage.

With so many fresh, beautiful options available, lighting is a fun, easy way to add instant style to the look of a home, inside and out.

Let the Light In

Infusing a room with natural light can make it feel instantly bigger. Some of Jasmine's favorite ways to let in the light? Replace a single door with French doors, carve out space for more windows or transform existing windows into sliding glass doors.

In addition to statement lighting, canned lights are a must for brightening up builder-grade homes.

Say "Buh-Bye" to Dated Carpet

Not only does that old carpet do nothing for the value of your home, but it can possibly pose a health risk. When the budget allows, Jasmine always swaps carpet for hard-surface flooring. (See the transformation of this staircase in the next slide).

Stripped of its dirty carpet and outfitted with fresh, inviting wood treads, this staircase is now a show-stopping stunner.

Nothing says "custom" like home design that reflects the priorities of the people (and pets!) who live there. Here, Jasmine (a dog lover herself) carved out a sweet spot for Fido under the staircase.
