Avant-Garde Great Room
A San Francisco couple with a love of art and a taste for modern design ask designer Tineke Triggs to create a great room which shows off their personal art collection but also has warmth and feels livable.
Triggs explains how she used the right placement of art to address the layout of the space and created a great room with a serious sense of style.
What was on the homeowner's wish list for this great room remodel?
The couple wanted a space where they could entertain, hold family gatherings and showcase their passion for art.
Bold Artistic Great Room
See All PhotosWhat was the single largest issue that you faced on this project?
The home had a highly modern palette which was perfect for displaying art but didn't provide the feeling of a home. The challenge was finding and creating pieces to highlight the art but warm the space.
How did you address design obstacles?
The layout of the space was a bit challenging due to the location of the front door and some floating stairs. By creating the flow of the rooms based on the integration of art, we were able to overcome the perceived challenges to the space.
What did you learn from this project?
When you really believe in a design element that is crucial to the overall look and feel of the space, you need to take a risk and do it. You might fail and it might cost you, but it might be the element that makes the design breathtaking.
