Kids' Ballerina Bedroom
This ballerina bedroom is a little girl's dream. Featuring victorian furniture and opulent finishes, this bedroom is made grand with oversize wood trim, curtains, and chandeliers. The seat at the dressing table is wrapped in tulle and a chaise lounge for relaxing is nearby.
When it came to designing a bedroom for a young girl, designer Dahlia Mahmood incorporated all things feminine to give it an elegant touch. A stunning chandelier, four-poster bed and soft pink details throughout the room are just a few of the design choices that make this room a knockout.
What were the main items on the family’s wish list?
The family requested a graceful design, for their two-year-old daughter, with a playful ballerina theme.
Pink Girls' Bedroom With White Poster Bed and Chandelier
A white poster bed with soft, pink bedding is framed by paintings of ballerinas, while an ornate chandelier and custom-made tufted door design add elements of elegance fit for a young girl.
What was the single largest challenge you wanted to address for this client?
The design of this room was kept simple. There were no real issues, but intent to design classic and elegant forms, which would extend the lifespan of the space. The child should be able to grow into the room without much modification in the future.
What was your biggest obstacle in this space?
The only major challenges came with the design of the bathroom. The pre-existing plumbing did not match up with the new waterworks fixtures. The connections had to be custom made to fit.
How does the end result match up with your original vision for the space?
With the intentions of keeping the room very simple, we wrapped the walls of the bathroom with a pink beaded wallpaper, then hung a simple mirror framed in crisp white panels. Putting the rest of the bathroom together, we decided to push it a step further and ornament the mirror with pearls and gems, classic elements to enrich entrance to the bath. Seeing it as a whole, the bathroom became a jewel itself.
What surprised you the most about the project?
You can sketch, plan, and design but there are levels of detail that can’t be seen until you are experiencing the space yourself. Even after the original plan has executed, sometimes your gut will tell you a design could be better. Always follow through with your instincts and go the extra mile; you will be satisfied with yourself and your clients will appreciate the honest efforts.
What are the hidden gems in your plan?
The door gives you a glimpse of the elegant space from the outside. It is custom made, tufted with pink silk and stamped with a large D for the first letter of the little girl’s name. The murals of ballerinas posing and dancing are framed with hand sculpted curls and ballet flats, and then accented with Swarovski crystals. Lamp shades on nightstands are fitted with ruffled tutus and wrapped in pink silk on the chandelier to soften the overall lighting of the delicate bedroom. The bathroom is a jewel itself with each façade sparkling with pink beads for a magical touch.
