Materials Needed:

  • 18" x 18" piece of 2" thick foam
  • 20" x 20" piece of patterned fabric
  • 20" x 20" piece of felt
  • 8.5" x 11" sheet of sticky-back felt
  • 20" x 20" piece of paper
  • 1 yard pompom trim
  • pen
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • permanent glue

Create Heart Stencil

Fold paper in half. With the fold on the left, draw one half of a heart (Image 2). Keep the paper folded and cut out the heart shape. Unfold the paper. There should now be a symmetrical heart stencil (Image 3). Place paper heart on the foam and trace around the edges of the paper. Cut out the heart from the foam (Image 4).

Cut Fabric to Size

Lay fabric right side down on the table. Place foam heart on top of the fabric. Trim excess fabric away, leaving 4 inches of fabric all around the foam heart (Image 1). Cut slits into the fabric border. Put glue on the edge of the fabric (Image 2). Fold each fabric section up over the edges of the foam (Image 3). Keep adding glue and folding the fabric to cover the edges of the foam (Image 4). Set foam heart aside to dry.

Add Felt Backing

Lay the large felt piece on the table and trace the same paper heart onto the felt (Image 1). Cut out the felt heart. Add glue all around the edges of the felt heart (Image 2). Press the felt heart onto the back of the foam heart pillow to cover up the edges of the fabric (Image 3).

Add Phrase

On the back of the sticky felt, sketch out the letters you want on the front of your pillow (Image 1). If your letters are not symmetrical — an "S", for example — remember to draw them backwards. Peel the paper off the felt and stick onto the front of the heart pillow (Image 2).

Add Pompom Trim

Put dabs of glue onto pompom trim and glue onto the outer edge of the foam heart pillow (Image 1). Glue it all the way around the heart (Image 2).

You're Finished!

Cuddle up on the sofa with your significant other, two glasses of champagne and some delectable homemade macarons.
