How to Make a Flocked Winter Heart Wreath
See how we used Epsom salt, foraged twigs, a coat hanger and a pool noodle to make a heart-shaped wreath covered in glittery fake snow and ice.
Unlike many typical holiday wreaths, you can display this shimmering creation throughout the winter. Plus, it's easy to make and budget-friendly. (Two of our favorite things.) We topped our flocked wreath with a pair of striking red cardinal ornaments, but you can get creative and add whatever accents you like — snowmen, red hearts, mini ice skates, faux flowers, and more!
Pro tip: Epsom salt is water-soluble, so be sure to hang your finished wreath in a low-traffic indoor area to protect it from moisture.

Tools and Materials
- wire coat hanger
- wire cutters
- white pool noodle
- Epsom salt
- jumbo glitter
- fine glitter
- Mod Podge
- spray adhesive
- craft paper
- craft knife
- twine
- white duct tape
- decorative faux birds (optional)
1. Create the Form
Bend a standard wire coat hanger into the shape of a heart and then remove the hook using wire cutters. Cut a pool noodle into two pieces. (Cut each end on a 45-degree angle, so they will fit together when wrapped around the wire.) To prevent the wire from poking through the noodle, apply small pieces of tape to the sharp ends of the wire. Feed the wire through both noodle pieces, then bring the edges the noodles together. Secure the seams with duct tape. Fasten small loops of twine to the back of the form with tape for hanging.

2. Create the Glimmering Ice
The secret to this wreath's enchanting appearance is Epsom salt. Pour a generous amount of Epsom salt into a container, then mix in fine and jumbo glitter. On a surface protected with craft paper, apply Mod Podge to the front and sides of the form. Generously sprinkle the salt and glitter mixture over the wet adhesive. Be sure to cover the wreath form completely. Let it dry.

3. Make the Frosty Branches
Venture outside and gather a variety of sticks, paying special attention to those with intricate limbs for a more dramatic effect. Cut the sticks into approximately 4-inch lengths. Lightly spray the sticks with craft glue, then coat them with the remaining salt and glitter mixture. Set them aside to dry completely.

4. Assemble the Wreath
Once the glittered sticks are dry, attach them to the heart-shaped base. Use a craft knife to carefully create small holes in the form where you want to place the sticks. Start by working around the outside edge of the heart, then fill in the front and inner areas. For added charm, nestle a pair of tiny red bird ornaments (or other decorations you love) into the icy branches.
