Materials and Tools:

2" wide wired ribbon (10 yards of ribbon makes about 4 feet of garland)
scissors
wire cutters
1/2" wide unwired ribbon in the same color as the 2" ribbon (preferably 8' -10' long)

Steps:

1. The length of the finished garland is determined by the length of unwired ribbon that you use as the garland base. Eight to 10 feet of garland is enough for most trees, but feel free to use more or less. Cut unwired ribbon to your desired length, knotting several ribbons together if necessary.

2. Cut the 2-inch wired ribbon into strips which are eight to 12 inches long. "Swallowtail" each of the ribbon ends by cutting them at an angle.

3. Starting at one end of the base ribbon, wrap one end of the wired ribbon strip onto the base ribbon to secure it. Continue adding wired ribbon strips to the base ribbon, each one overlapping the end of the previous ribbon strip. Tip: Because this is such a simple process, this is a great project for kids to help with.

4. Continue until you have completed a garland of desired length. Drape garland along a banister, mantel or Christmas tree to add a bright touch to your home's holiday decor.
