How to Make Traditional Wassail in a Slow Cooker
The flavor of this aromatic holiday drink deepens as the ingredients steep in your slow cooker. Place all the ingredients in the pot to warm as you make preparations for your party. When guests arrive, they can help themselves to a cup of Christmas cheer.

1 cup tawny port
2 quarts apple cider
2 quarts orange juice
4 tablespoons lemon juice, divided
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1 apple
1 orange
2 cups fresh cranberries
3-4 cinnamon sticks
Yield: 12 servings
To the pot of a slow cooker, add the port, cider, orange juice and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Stir in sugar and cinnamon; mix. Thinly slice and deseed apple. Pat dry and stud 2 apple slices with cloves. Cut strips of orange zest away from the pith. To the pot, add the apple slices, orange peel, cranberries and cinnamon sticks, and cook on low for 4-6 hours before serving.
